This will be my first sword, and I am torn between TFW's Celtic Dress Sword: traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Celtic%20Dress%20Sword.htmlAnd, well, quite a few weapons from VA. Which should I go with? Suggestions? I've put hours of research into TFW, but since I've not even LOOKED for information about VA and yet still heard absolutely nothing but good things, I feel I can trust them and the statistics on their site. Is this a fatal beginner's blunder?

Depends on which VA sword you want... and if you can find it in stock. VA makes a lot of different weapons... nothing like that Celtic Sword tho. If the VA sword you like is not in stock... it may be awhile. As for the Celtic... I'd recommend this: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ltic+Sword Sadly, its backordered... but its 100 bucks cheaper then the TFW one and is a VERY good sword. Won't be back in stock till Feb/Mar 2013 tho.

As mentioned by Sean VA is a well respected company but if it is not in stock it can take awhile. Also they don't offer a similar sword as the FTW Celtic design.
Sean's recommendation for the Kris Cutlery Celtic sword would be one I would also suggest, Kris Cutlery is a good respected company also.
The FTW Celtic Dress Sword would be an interesting one to get however, since it is new, and I don't think anyone here has reviewed it yet.
FTW has been coming out with some great stuff and it is an impressive company. They are doing a great job making swords from a lot of different cultures, but with their own little flair and take upon that sword style.
If you do end up getting the FTW Celtic Dress sword please take plenty of pictures and post up a review of it in our review section. Even if it is your first sword and you don't have the experience or knowledge to compare with other swords, it would be a valuable resource for others if you do get one.
Speaking of this being your first blade. VA or Kris Cutlery have long standing reputations and reliability. You can read reviews of their products and know what to expect. Being this will be your first blade, buying from FTW might be a little more risky, as that particular style has not been reviewed. Their katana and other swords though have and they seem like a company who is doing good work. How their Celtic Dress sword compares with other Celtic swords though has not be seen yet here on SBG really.
I do have to say though, their video about the Celtic Dress Sword is very entertaining.

I recommend Valiant Armoury. Sonny does great work, but there will be a wait. You should give sonny at valiant armoury a call to see when the next batch of the sword you want is coming in. That's probably the fastest way to get one. Plus you can have sonny customize the color for free which no one else offers.
