Hi folks, I'm looking to purchase a Chinese Dao, I already have the Hanwei Practical Gongfu Broadsword (SH2063) and was looking to get something a bit better. I'm looking for a functional sword with proper weight and handling. It doesn't matter if the sword is plain looking either. So far, I've found these (in no particular order), let me know what you think, which would you choose, feel free to add any I might have missed: 1. Hanwei Oxtail Dao (SH1011) - $265.50 www.cashanwei.com/product/oxtail-dao/sh10112. Sinosword Liu Ye Dao (TZ20110803) - price? www.sinosword.com/ProductShow/?p ... leaf-saber 3. TFW Dan Dao - $235 ... 20Dao.html 4. Huanuo Round Grip Chinese Battle Sword (liuyedao) - $385 sevenstarstrading.com/site/huanuo/rndbattle/5. Huanuo Oxtail Dao (niuweidao) - $385 sevenstarstrading.com/site/huanuo/oxtail/6. Kris Cutlery Dao IV (KRSDAOIV) - $275 www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ery+Dao+IV or www.kriscutlery.com/mm5/merchant ... de=Chinese It would be great to hear from anyone who has already bought these or any other dao. Can anyone recommend a good dao for under $500, what would be your choice? Also, what would you buy, the civilian Oxtail dao (niuweidao) or military willow leaf dao (liuyedao)? Thanks!

I used to own the Hanwei Oxtail Dao, but I found it just too heavy when practicing the basic forms.

I don't have any prior dao experience, but the oxtail by traditional filipino weapons caught my eye when it came out. traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/C ... 20Dao.html Edit: Do'h...I hadn't noticed option 3 on your list, the image doesn't function on my phone. That said, it may be utilitarian, but the hardwood grip and sheath with the iron fittings are really pleasing to my eye, and for $235 it's the strongest option in myopinion.

That Huanuo piece is beautiful. The Sinosword Liu Ye Dao will vary in price based on the options you request. Mine is going to cost me about $500 including shipping. But I went with twistcore, DH, and engraving on the blade and a few other things I can't remember right now.

I'm not an expert on dao, but I own the TFW dao and couldn't be more pleased with it. It feels good in the hand, hits hard, and is just a heck of a sword.

You might want to check in with Jin Shi and see if their Qing Dynasty Oxtail Dao is going to be available soon. One of our members here owns the dao it is based off of. forum.sword-buyers-guide.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=13311www.jin-shi.com/dao.htmlIf that one isn't available yet, or within a time frame suited for you. I personally like the TFW dao best out of the ones you list. The Kris Cutlery Dao also looks like a winner. Though it looks like you have listed all the better dao, so have obviously done your homework here. I imagine you will be happy with whichever you end up getting.

They're all nice, it's going to be tricky deciding!
I've fixed up the picture for option 3, chosen another photo to link to, the main picture gives trouble for some reason.
I'm waiing with baited breath for the Jin Shi sabre to become available too, wonder what that might cost?
Luckily I'm not rushing into a purchase so I've got some time to think over the choices and take on board the advice given here. Thanks guys! I'll let you all know what I end up getting!
