I would recommend this sword 100% as I'm a fantasy sword guy, but it's not to everyone taste or I would not have been able to buy it second hand, I have four Odin-blades / Longship swords , with three more on the way, they are for me great value, excellent quality and visually appealing with terrific handling, yes I'm a fan but the above reasons are why I keep buying more. Do yourself a favour and pick one up.

Paul I ordered a Verrimus about the same time as the Silvia came out, nearly got two but James was hinting at a big two hander as the next longship to be made so I want to save some cash to get one if it turns up soon, if not I will go for anther Verrimus but with a clip point to match the Silvia's.

Cool, at the rate you’re going your building up a sword super fund Ive been considering a Verrimus as well, I emailed James about a month ago (with a note “no rush, just when you get a chance”) re trying to hilt up a Verrimus as close as they can to the original odin blades guardian wader. Haven’t heard back yet but pretty keep to plan that to start in the 1st half of next year. I’m on track for an Albion Principe for early next year so this would be a good follow on. Also hoping the aussie $ picks up too, paid for another sword today via paypal and took a bath on the exchange

Paul the Warder is one of my all time favourite swords, got a VA Warder but the blade broke , I would not hesitate to buy a Longship Warder, hopefully you get a response soon.

Rob they handle great very similar to my Albion Knecht, won't be able to cut with these till the Christmas break, will try to get some video, or if you and Aussie are about over the holidays will let you have a swing about in the back yard.

Very nice Dave, I've actually been looking at the cold steel offerings recently, hadn't looked at windless.
Where did you pick yours up from? And did it come sharp?

Paul I got it from KoA after reading Dave Kelly's review here. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15153I got them to sharpen it for $18, will need to go over the edge but not too bad. Bill what I like most is it is a replica based off an original, so it right in terms of weight and handling. I was thinking of getting another and cutting the guard down for a leftie.

Another update, these two were waiting for me when I got home, not quite a matched pair but very close at 1837 and 1838. Some background info from seller. French 1829 pattern officcers artilleryman's sabre. In great condition with scabbard. It has been service sharpened and has a couple of nicks to the edge. On the spine of the blade it is marked as having been made in Chatelleraut in 1837, this pattern was carried in the Crimean War (1854-56), and the joint Anglo-French invasion of China in 1860. The hilt is solid on the tang with wire twist over leather-bound grip. This type sabre was introduced in France as the Model 1829 Field Artillery Saber for both enlisted and officers. The United States adopted the saber for its field artillery in 1840 and by 1844 Ames was the primary producer. Beautiful bladed Mounted Cavalry Artillery Officers M1829 Sabre with numerous stamps and manufacturing details to blade .Thick heavy cast brass "D" stirrup guard superb and stamped with Directors and Controllers stamp with #s 1547-40 (crossed out ) and 1344 on the crossguard . Excellent leather over wood ribbed grip with wire twists intact and solid , brass has circled B inspectors stamp under the hilt quillion . Blades beautifully made , proper thick fighting blade (not light parade piece) , single fullered Hussars curved style sabre in period unsharpened condition , normal scuffing to steel from sword being drawn but no pitting or rust and blade surface is still very bright , original leather buffer , carries B Inspectors stamp plus one other to the back ricasso edge and a "2" to the obverse ricasso , blade back edge scripted to the Government armoury Manuf re R le de Châtellerault Mai 1838. (Manufactured Royal Chatellerault May 1837)
