Has anyone here dealt with hanweiwarehouse.com ? They seem to have good prices.
Any particular issues come to mind? Is it a reliable site?

I looked at the site. Never ordered from them. Kult of Athena appears to have lower prices.

Notice anything else cheaper? They do not use PayPal which is so-so.

I was going to buy that Bamboo Mat , Pressed "Add to Cart" went to check-out and though, I'd better contacted them 1st to see if it was "In Stock".. Good thing I did not complete the transaction. They replied within 1/2 hour, and, the Bamboo Mat was out of stock and not expected to arrive in their next shipment.. He also explained about the Fire at Hanwei. Yes, they did have a good low price..and only $15.00 Mailing.. The Bamboo Mat Blade looks wicked..The fittings look nice.. Thought I'd like to have one when I saw it.. Maybe it was best they were out of stock... I've been going off buying swords. Alton Ken Sorry about my spelling.. I keep editing to correct the spelling errors.. WOW, I had Mat as Matt!! Now I catch-on to stickum's reply.. Don, The price there was a bit more than the HANWEI Warehouse.. But thanks for the information..

Hi Peeps, My name is Shane and I'm the owner of HanweiWarehouse.com. I just wanted to drop a note to say yes, we are real BTW, I noticed some of you felt you couldn't 'trust' the site, can I ask why? Best, Shane HanweiWarehouse

Ken ~ No worries. They had it spelled Bamboo "Matt" on the Hanweiwarehouse website itself. I was pointing out this typo on the vendor's website, not anything you did or didn't spell right... Was a tongue-in-cheek comment rather than grammar nazi harrassment. Just thought it was funny the sword is typically used to cut bamboo mats (e.g., tatami, straw, bamboo) and they made it sound like you use it to cut up some guy named Matt  This make sense? Sorry for any confusion. P.S. It looks like Hanweiwarehouse has made a correction since this thread started. When I go to their website now, it is Bamboo "Mat." So good for them for paying attention to what we are saying here

Thanks for the replies. I've actually been in online commerce for nearly 8 years running a number of successful sites so the world of online isn't new to me, but I'm always open to feedback In regards to Hanwei, its been very frustrating over the last year. The availability issues all stem from the major fire they had at their forge last year. As a result, all production was halted until the new forge was rebuilt. Unsurprisingly that took longer than expected due to bad whether and in the end production didn't start at the new forge until April of this year, however, the first shipment didn't arrive in the U.S. until August if I remember correctly. Theres been one, maybe two other shipments that have come in since then, the last being this month. The fire has changed a number of things. A number of lines are now only available directly from Hanwei via edgefair.com because they can no longer offer margins that would make profit for dealers, this is a result of the factoring in the cost of the new forge, labor etc. We could sell them but you'd have to pay full MSRP, the same as at EdgeFair: These have been noted on our site. As for high end pieces like the Bamboo Mat, I've lost count of how many enquires I've had for that. All I can tell you is that very few high end pieces have been coming in, of the few that have, numbers are below 10 units in total! I'm presuming that will change once the forge is up to full speed, so for now we all have to wait. I'm aware that there are no shortage of sources for Hanwei products online, but my goal is to provide a definitive resource eventually. I'm not out to rip anyone off, just provide an easy place to go at affordable prices. In the future I'd like to offer video reviews but its not possible to do this for every product - perhaps members of this forum could list what items they would like to see? Thanks!

Shane, first off, welcome to the forum! It's always great when vendors join our community, it's a great way to open dialogue between seller and buyer. You may want to apply for a "Manufacturer and Vendors" status here, that way you can post about any deals and offers you have in the future. You don't have to, of course, but I think it's great to have vendors here and we want to promote the honest guys who sell us our sharp goodies. When it comes to Hanwei, I think most folks understand the initial and ongoing damage the fire caused. It was a terrible tragedy to the sword industry, and one not easily recovered from. Price increases and extended wait time is something we all need to understand, and we really have been spoiled by low prices in the past.
Anyway, I've rambled on enough; glad you joined and look forward to future conversations.

Good news is though that many items have actually gone down in price, not a lot, but some. The real change I see is that lines that now can only be sold direct.

Just to let you know that a new shipment of Hanwei is arriving mid November. Some nice pieces in there including the Shinto Katana and Bamboo Mat Wakizashi, very limited numbers though (only 2 Shinto's!). Let me know if you would like to reserve or check anything.
