I was wondering if you guys could provide a list of all the current makers of karambits, both fixed and folders. I'm trying to find one along the same lines as the striders, but without the serrations on the spine.

Check out this one at TFW. www.traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Karambit.htmlEmerson Knives makes some popular karambits in fixed and folding. Cold Steel makes one called the Tiger Claw or something. I'm sure there are plenty more. I've never been big on the karambit, but they are an interesting and unique knife.

I've looked at that one before. It's one of the few where the manufacturers didn't do something weird on the spine. The only turnoff about TFW's karambit is the really steep grinds.

Check EBay. I stumbled a crossed a few makers that just put stuff on eBay. They make some really nice ones, you'll know which ones I'm thaking about when you see them.

Valiant Co. of Australia has a few decent models here: www.valiantco.com/sumatra2.htmlPersonally, I'm not much taken with the majority of karambits on offer. They're either too small or too round for my tastes. I prefer the shape of blades like the kuku macan (like this one: www.valiantco.com/sumatra/KukuMacan.JPG ) but like the karambit's handle style better. If I could find something like this, I'd be all over it: www.batoto.net/read/_/57820/hist ... rial-scans Sorry for the manga link, but it's the only picture and I'm not going to the hassle of saving it just to host it somewhere else. While you're there, may as well have a read. As to the eBay stores, I can think of a couple that are pretty good, but sure can't remember their names right now...

This is not a vendor for knives, but here is a video from some folks I've trained with to illustrate some of the uses for the karambit. Hopefully it will give a better appreciation for how it can be used, as it is a little different kind of weapon... Enjoy!

Yes, the one Frank the Bunny linked looks familiar and would be a good choice. Another source I would check out is Pinoy Steel. They make good traditional FMA gear, as you can see here: pinoysteel.tumblr.com/tagged/karambit/chronoAlso Keen Edge makes some which closely resemble their trainers, so their is little continuity lost between the feel of your practice blade & your live blade: keenedgeknives.com/store/page16.htmlHope that helps you find what you are looking for. Please post pics of whatever you decide to get

Just a quick note about Pinoy Steel. Jay, the owner is great to deal with.
He travels to places where these knives originate (Philippines, Indonesia, etc depending on the blade) and tries to find the best local maker to source his blades. He is very adamant about keeping these blade making traditions alive and uses his company, Pinoy Steel, as a conduit for his philosophy.
If you want to buy a southeast asian blade from its cultural source of origin, Pinoy Steel is a great way to go.
