I have a favor to ask of anyone out there who owns the Albion Conan swords. I am looking for someone to help supply me with the dimensions of the Father's sword and the Atlantean. I have always wanted these swords but can not swing the cost of the Albion versions. I am a bladesmith and can build the swords if I just had an idea of what the dimensions are. I am building these for myself and am not looking to mass produce them so don't worry about that. I have become very ill and face a long slow medical road ahead and I would like to build these swords when I can as my health allows. My son and daughter will be helping me. I have not been able to work for 2 years now and want to build these swords before I get any worse. Not looking for sympathy just need some measurements. So if any of you own these swords please PM me and I will send you what I need. I want to build these swords myself as it will be one of the things I can leave behind for future generations to enjoy and cherish and hopefully spark my descendants into the bladesmithing trade. Please do not send measurements from the Windlass or any other reproduction companies as I want to stay as close to the Albion versions as possible and do not like the other versions. Thanks in advance.

Most of the raw dimensions are listed on Albion's Filmswords site: filmswords.com/conan/conan-sword ... ersary.htm Overall length: 38 7/8" Blade Length: 28 1/8" from emergence from casting, 21.25" from end of langets Blade width at end of langets: 3" Grip length: 5.35" Blade thickness: .25" at base CoG: 4.5" from end of grip (1" from blade's emergence from casting) Weight: 7 lbs 12 oz You could also contact forumites Brendan Olszowy and Jeffrey Robinson, as they've collaborated on several Conan swords over the years, playing with different dimensions. www.fableblades.com/King%20of%20 ... 0Lost.html www.fableblades.com/Crom.htmlwww.fableblades.com/Antidiluvian.html

Thanks for the info. I have those dimensions from their site and have tried contacting Fable blades but have not gotten a reply to several requests so I do not know if I have the wrong guys or they do not wish to give out the info (wouldn't blame them at all). What I'm mainly after is the true width of the Father's sword where it meets the cross guard and the length and width of the skull and horns. I have the Atlantean pretty well carved out but just want to make sure my measurements are correct on the cross guard and pommel. Never seeing one or handling one in person makes it a little tough. I used to be able to look at and hold a sword or knife once and get a feel for it and be able to replicate it almost to a t. Now that I am sick it isn't as easy to do that fine detail work just from pictures anymore and I am pressed for time and do not have the option of starting a project over from scratch. Hopefully one of the guys out there has one of the Albion swords and won't mind taking the time to get me some measurements. Thanks again for the info. and the time to answer me. I wish you and yours all the best. P.S. When me and the kids finish these I will post pics for you guys who help me out on this and also post some pics of a Conan The King sword I designed from the books. I think you guys will really like it. I may post the other designs I made from the books also. Non will be for sale as they are my own collection. Maybe one day my son or daughter will take up the hammer and build them again.

I need the blade width at the emergence from the bronze casting, a single horn length of the skull on the Father's, the width and length of the skull, and the total width of both horns from tip to tip, to get things started. Sorry to bother but I have scoured the net and only found some measurements and not enough to really work from. Thanks in advance.

your in the same boat as me, cant afford one so im gonna make it myself, but i think youl find that the windlass, and SLO ones out there are pretty damned close to albion specs, the only diff being quality. Im looking to get a walhanger one to tear apart for measurements myself.

I did not know how much coverage I would get in the other area. My illness is one that grows worse and worse over time so I am trying to find the info ASAP. It will take me awhile to carve the wax pieces and hand forge the blades not to mention the double hollow grind effect on the blades on the anvil (very difficult to do them the way Jody Sampson did.). I am an old time bladesmith and do things the hard way so time is an expensive commodity for me. I do not and have not ever done or believed in the stock removal system or any metal removal system. Steel needs to be compacted and shaped and if cut into in any manner will sacrifice the durability of the blade. I am no scientist but I can guarantee you if you looked at a forged blade under a microscope and a stock removal blade you would see the layers of steel in the stock removal blade and not the forged blade. The blades I forge can stand up to some serious punishment (hit test every one on a piece of tempered steel before finishing to test them for give and strength) and I want these swords to be no different. Plus I only feel good one or two days a week, if I am lucky, and that really cuts down on my work time. Sorry if I treaded where I shouldn't have. If I did let me know and I will attempt to right the mistake. Again thank you for posting and helping me out in this matter. As far as the Windlass blades go they are really far off the mark. I have personally held both swords and can tell you that they are no where near a true usable blade. The Father's sword looks nothing like the film sword and the Atlantean is off if you study the fine details. I am a horrible perfectionist and that is one of my down falls. If I build something I pick it apart until I know that it is perfect. I have spent many sleepless nights worrying if I did a perfect job on almost all of my builds. Like I said, a bad behavior trait. Thanks for the help though and I appreciate all of your guys input and help in this matter. And if I can help you with something related to my field do not hesitate to ask and I will do my best to help you out. Many thanks and best to all of you!

Sounds good to me. I respect you also for the stock removal as it is not an easy job to accomplish I know! I am just really bad about my steel and how it is made. How are you heat treating? If you need help in this area I can send you some plans for a heat treat tank that runs off propane. It isn't cheap to build but it is worth every cent if you are after achieving the quality of steel that will stand up to some use. Though if you do not do alot of blades a local heat treatment plant may be more economical for you. Here I go telling you what to do when I do not even know how you build you blades. Sorry. I always love to find someone who is competitive in what they do. Keeps me on my toes and keeps me at the top of my game! Many happy grindings to you and luck with your blade!

im a noob by far and humbly accept any and all information anyone has to offer! as for the heat treat, i built my own forge for knives (mainly what i make) but this sword is like a sort of ultimate challenge for me. im having it heat treated by a fellow bladesmith, since my forge is only for blades up to 12 inches.
