Hello Kyle, and welcome to SBG. I would pass on the Handmade one. Just to be clear, though, I have not owned a product from either of those companies. I have read several reviews and comments on both, however. Ryumon has more positive feedback, and is said to be an okay value. Handmade Swords seems to charge a good deal more than their products are worth. Also, you should consider two other sellers. Huawei: www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=wakizashi&_sacat=0&_odkw=&_osacat=0&_armrs=1&_ssn=huawei-swordSinoswords: www.sinosword.com/Both offer a good quality product that you can customize somewhat the price Handmade folks want for one of theirs.

if I were you I'd probably go with the ryumon.
I own a handmade brand ninjato and even though its a good sword there's a lot of ups and downs to it.
one, non alternating ito two, cheap saya three, its thorough hardened 1065 with a ugly fake hamon.
for the $95 I paid for it its pretty good but then again this is the ninjato model and not the wakizashi so the wakizashi could be better.
the ryumon your looking at I've actually thought of purchasing myself as a shoto for my musashi since they both have similar fittings. the bonus to the ryumon is a differentialy hardened 1095 blade. alternating ito and a better constructed saya. ryumon is around the same quality as the musashi shirakawa series and other higher end musashi katana. if you like or ever handled a musashi and liked it, you'll probably be happy with the ryumon.
by the way, swordsofmight sells the ryumon wakizashi for a little cheaper.

I'm not sure of your budget or how determined you are about getting a customizable blade, but I'll provide some counter suggestions. Hanwei Raptor - $211.95 I don't own the wakazashi, but I do have one of the Raptor Unokubi Zukuri blades. It is a durable sword, well balanced, and while the tsuka is not waisted it is still a nice blade in my opinion. Hanwei Practical Wakizashi - $161.95 Hanwei Practical Plus Wakizashi - $193.95 I don't have personal experience with Hanwei outside of the Raptor Unokubi but they have a decent reputation from what I've seen on the forums. The advantage of going through Kult of Athena over an e-bay seller is that KoA's customer service in the face of bad blades is easier to deal with. Of course that assumes you are in the US. I'm not sure how dealing with them when international shipping is involved goes.
