Thanks to so many people here and at other places on the web, i expect to receive my first real sword on Monday. Although I made a sword stand in my basement that is a copy of the Hatori Hanzo sword stand as seen in the movie Kill Bill, I did not have one to use upstairs where I will be doing all my sword maintenance. The design i came up with makes use of material I had on hand (So it was free) and it can hang on the wall in addition to holding a sword on a table. I made it with my cats in mind as they tend to knock over everything...this sword stand will not knock over. Attachments:

thanks.....I used the branches from a poplar tree that fell this winter... The Whitetail deer antler was found in the back yard next to my teepee... I stained the antler with leather dye to color match each to the other. The wood for the base came from some 100 year old underground work we dug up last summer.

I think you underestimate the tenacity and dedication to mayhem of cats. Nicely done even so.

I designed it with outriggers to hold up when brushed.....
However should one of my wife's cats cause some damage to my new sword....I would expect my neighbor to soon after hear a muffled gun shot....and later see me digging in the back yard....

I can't see it not working unless the weight of the sword tips it. If so then you'll have to add weight to the base- In that case I'd hollow it out and fill it with shot or pennies

Very cool. And, worst case scenario happens; Oh no, your sword fails! You can still kill them with the stand(think Kiefer Sutherland in Lost Boys.) Way to think ahead.

Sweet! But you know, its a sword stand, neighbors are guaranteed to not hear a sword cut. Otherwise they might snitch you out to your wife. Oh and to limit the digging necessary, just make some weird food dish and substitute cat for whatever meat it calls for. It all tastes like chicken anyways!

Had some friends from my sword class over last night to do some cutting. Got to see what a sword looks like in the stand?... "That's not bad"Its actually was tricky to take a natural product like deer antlers from two different deer and try to get them to line up so that the sword will sit level when laid across them....
I located the first one as a guide in position, then it only took a lot of cutting, swearing, and re-cutting and more swearing to get the other one to match the height and level-ness of the first...
My thanks go out to members of my sword class for helping make the evening's "Swords and Suds" beer and sword review a lot of fun!
In the course of the evening we learned many things: We learned that the Chinese glue used to attach a handle onto a $50 dollar sword is not all that hard to overcome , with a bit of pounding.
We learned that the spin-around sword cut that is part of the basic Kumdo pattern is not all that easy to do against a noddle target.
We learned that Alan's computer needs to be updated to keep the attention of teenagers.
and, we learned that some beers are so bad that they can cause emotional damage if even tasted in small amounts.Attachments:
