Try slashing at targets while on the run and you'd want a katana. On the same token, try thrusting and you want a longsword. That's why in heavy combat, the real swordsman fight with a spear..

Aside from the comparison, I’m actually more impressed by the edge alignment while cutting the tomato.

Ya right.
The other prefered weapon would be 2 maces, warhammers or flail. The sword is cool looking though. Chicks dig.

Hmmm, only if spear thrusts stayed extended out like stylized karate dojo punches...

I'd agree its all preferance. I like katana, becuase I like hamon and ito and al that. I just think it looks good and feels good.
SLAM, I would disagree with you. I know nothing of H/T (hell, I dont even know what (H/T stands for, but I see it all the time) But the experiences you had with the quality control of whatever swords/companies and retailers has nothing to do with the sword style, or even the particular model of sword. I know people who have gotten crappy 600$ + swords, doesn't mean it was a bad sword, just means the company who gave it to them had bad quality control.
Remember that swords were used (not just for cutting bottles) but USED TO FIGHT! So you can only base whats "Good and bad" off how well it did its job, in medieval Europe, ancient Rome, feudal japan, wherever. Honestly there is a plethora of thought that has to go into what makes a sword "good or bad" Lots of variables to consider.

It's an abbreviation for the Hanwei/Tinker line, which includes their bastard swords, longsword, single hand sword, Norman sword, viking sword, and great sword of war.

It's Ok, the discussion is still quite healthy and positive! No one has claimed that they have a katana that can cut the whole nation of Japan in half yet (and do it with a silent cut too!)

So will my TH 9260 Cheness Tenchi, and it will also go through any of those pesky nihonto blades that might be in the path of the cut too! Now, this is getting silly...

Bigtime warriors & fighters and conquerors of worlds did not use the katana. You guys remember that.

You betcha! The Masters of the Universe don't either! (But Power Rangers do, but they really suck big time!!!) Even the StarWars light sabers are Euro swords, if they were katana they would be curved, which will make them look dumb, and overtly phallic, think I'd better drop this one, it's heading downhill fast...

Euro swords weren't polished to the same degree as nihonto, but much the same procedure would have been used historically-- stones and other abrasive materials in various grits applied to the blade until it's at the desired finish. There might have been some buffing involved as well.
