One big and heavy sword from the stats. No distal taper either - I will pass.

I thought that too for a second, but then I remembered it was the Pavia.

Yeah, that hero sword is a real horse. I have never handled that one, but I had a windlass claymore that was 2''wide with no profile or distal taper to speak of...probably a bit shorter blade than the hero and it started its life as a 5.5 lb behemoth....and was not an easy sword to deal with. I modified it heavily and it now weighs 4.5 lbs, still has no distal or profile taper to speak of, has a bit heavier pommel maybe...and its still the heaviest least responsive sword I own by a good margin. Granted, its also the biggest. I can't even imagine how this Hero sword moves. Be strong grasshoppers. Be very very strong. i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii5 ... 0a59ff.jpg

If you look at the Pavia you can see it's a different blade, the Pavia has a diamond cross. If anything by pics alone it appears the Hero's uses the same blade as the Braveheart (or as the re-issue is called, the Freedom Fighter). The peen looks wider on the Hero's too when compared to pics of the Pavia.

Hi nddave, Yes, it is obviously a different blade. Didn't notice the peen. It's just that they both came out approx. at the same time, IIRC. My memory of seeing it mentioned somewhere led me to the thread about the Pavia, where the Hero's warsword is mentioned by one participant who speculates that they may share the same construction method. It is only speculation up to this point, of course. I just thought it could be relevant and of interest to someone. Hope it is a good one from WS. Looking forward on the reviews. Cheers, Reflingar

I have the blade from the MRL 2-handed Irish Sword in the basement. Gave the hilt parts away a few years ago. It was another of the big swords they used to make. I guess it could be made into a short sword of some type. Sword was just one big bar of steel. :-)

Yea it seems like after further inspection all three great sword blades have differences as the Hero's is the only one lacking a riccasso. I wonder how the tang looks on the Freedom Fighter/Braveheart. If two out of three end up having the same construction then it's probably safe to say the third is the same. Makes you think about the English Two Hander as well. Even though it's shorter.
Yes definitely, I'm looking forward to doing my own stat measurements just to see what's what, since KoA and MRL's stats are both quite different. I asked MRL what the PoB was on it and they said they didn't do a test, even though they did on the Pavia... Hopefully the PoB isn't as forward as KoA posted, but then again for a 47" blade maybe 9" isn't as forward as you'd think with a 13" handle.

Well I hope they do Viking stuff some week. I would buy up lots of goodies. So with the Scottish things this week they should have some sort of basket hilt or claymore.

Well we are on the right track for a Viking weapon this weekend. Hopefully it will be a sword and not the Dragon Axe. Keep it coming!
