I have owned this sword a couple of times over the years. It is a heavy one.
It is very close to a German Dussack using a basket hilt but naval ones existed with basket hilts.
French had a naval one though with a similar blade. Hilts were varied depending on origin. These types were usually on the heavy side.

6/1 Bastard Sword $ 169.95 www.museumreplicas.com/bastard-swordDon't forget the promo code SBGVIP for that additional 10% off Anyone have any experience with this one, it's been on and off MRL's lineup several times and marketed under several different names over the years. This model goes back to the early Windlass takeover days of MRL and was a copy of a Del Tin they used to carry. I've often thought about picking it up but never pulled the trigger,

I had the MRL/Del Tin one years ago and gave it to a friend for his wedding. Had a Sarge scabbard.
Bought the new one awhile back and really do not see any difference in the new one. They seem identical.
Sword is a little on the heavy side and is a 2-hander for sure. Has that very short ricasso which makes the blade seem to taper on paper.
Good grab for the sale price. Not a true bastard sword as it cannot be used 1-handed. Not much taper after the ricasso. On the heavy side but manageable.

This is a pretty good little axe for the camp-site or hiking trip, but the wooden handle wont take much abuse. I made a langette out of a piece of scrap steel and pinned/glued it underneath the head on the edge side. Really helped sturdy it up and made it more useable. Kinda wish I still had it. But, overall, I would suggest a Cold Steel tomahawk. Those things are TOUGH.

I can't comment on this one as I never had one. I do agree with christain, CS handles as a whole seem to be more consistent with their hardness.

I've never had a broken handle on a CS hawk, but then, I don't throw them. The Rifleman's hawk is a BEAST of a camp axe. So is the Spike hawk.

And they can easily deal with the abuse. They get beaten up a little bit, but what wouldn't. I've never had one broken though. Also think it's worth mentioning that I own a couple of hanwei axes, and those can deal with just as much tough love. Never had a windlass though, not sure I trust the wood after reading reviews

I’ve had no Windlass axes, but am aware of the haft’s questionable reputation. I’ve only one experience with a hawk and that is CS Spike Tomahawk. I did replace the haft, but only to have the 30” War Hammer haft. I’ve busted many coconuts, sub terrain roots, and use the spike mainly to punch hole in coconuts for the water and to break up the ground during dry season when it becomes hard as a rock. And possibly on one occasion cement? I have used the spike to get under roots and then lever them up using the long handle. The head and haft are holding up well.

I have busted Cold Steel hawk handles. It takes a lot of work.

Get yourself a collection without breaking the bank. Lots of people like to customize, so you can get real artsy if you desire. Oh, CS Viking hand axe is pretty sweet as well.
