I wonder if it's either 11cm (4.3") or someone has measured it from the back of the hilt. Either would seem about right. Edit - slow typing... thanks 28shadow

Centimeters...inches...that even tripped up NASA back in '99 when they lost a Mars probe.

Mine is the same model they used to sell without the darkened hilt and different looking rivets.
Actually handles quite well. Handles better than most of my other basket hilt swords.
Voltan put a super sharp edge on mine.

Thing about the carbon steel basket hilts is rust. Of course the Hanwei ones are stainless. My Windlass Eglinton developed a fair amount of basket rust when I moved. Got some of it off but ended up saying the heck with it. Just too many crooks and crannies to clean. Just treated it to keep it from getting worse.
This one for the deal of the day is fairly easy to keep the basket clean.

I have several variations and only have rust problems with a couple.

As many of you had already, I figured the POB had to be a typo there.
I guess I should have placed my order earlier in the day, though; ordered the shiavona a little after noon my time, and got an email back saying its on backorder! I guess people really gobbled up their stock once it hit DotD. Oh well, I can be patient. For any of you who've waited, and have been weighing back and forth on whether you want this one or not; it is on backorder now.

I have several variations and only have rust problems with a couple. The rust I got on mine was from the move to the US from Germany. 95% of everything made it fine. Just a handful had some rust.

Even Deepeeka can't unbalance them that badly. Sounds like a challenge.

Even Deepeeka can't unbalance them that badly. Sounds like a challenge. If anyone can do it, they can. They have a Korsoygaden viking sword on KOA right now with a listed POB of nine and half inches.

Sounds like a challenge. If anyone can do it, they can. They have a Korsoygaden viking sword on KOA right now with a listed POB of nine and half inches. It's that's goofy what they do, backwards distal taper. For some reason their tips are thicker than the base or middle of the blade. For example KoA will post the thickness as 3.5mm-5.0mm on some extreme examples. Someone once said in a thread discussing Depeeka that they do that for stage reenactment but it really makes no sense why they either wouldn't taper to the tip or leave it untapered like Windlass or DSA sometimes do. Seems very odd and uneven and more work than actually providing some moderatw distal taper or non at all.

On a viking sword blade I think they start with a diamond cross section (easier to make than lenticular) and then carve the fuller. Where the fuller ends the ridge in the middle of the blade can be thicker than the fullered part of the blade. One of my vikings has this, but it's not a real problem of mass distribution because the unfullered tip isn't long and has profile taper. To be honest it makes the tip stronger. A pob far out can be ok if the blade is light. If it's not you have an axe, hehe.
