So, what is your favorite CCW holster?
Over the years, I have probably owned one of every brand of holster out there. I've tried everything once, from custom Mitch Rosen rigs to flimsy Uncle Mike's HLOs (holster-like objects). I've used these holsters in every type of situation, from carrying when mowing my yard, to rolling though bad guy infested sh*tholes in the Middle East. To this day, I still have a large box of holsters in my vault. Most get very little wear, but a few get worn on a regular basis.
To start the thread, I will begin with my favorite, or rather 3 favorite holsters given the various carry methods I personally use. I want to point out, this is not about your BEST quality holsters, but your FAVORITE holsters - the ones you LOVE!
CCW:
Straight the straight out best CCW holster I have ever personally used is the Galco Matrix MX7. This holster holds the weapon to the contour of your body really well, maintains it shape even with tons of abuse, and has a nice solid internal friction lock. One of the greatest benefits is that I do not have to remove my belt to mount/unmount it - really handy for court and such. I've got one for my Glocks, and it fits all of them, regardless of barrel length. Best of all, it's cheap. On average, this can be found for around $20.00.
I've got some really nice belt slide CCW holsters, but to be honest, this is my favorite. Ironic that I use it more than a I do a $220 custom holster, huh?
Deep CCW:
Sometimes carrying CCW is not easy and you need to conceal a weapon more than you normally would. I have found with the Uncle George's Wallet Holster, I can pack away a Kahr CM9 just like it's a wallet in my hip pocket. It's not a tiny rig, such as it would be with a Kel-Tec P3AT or NAA Mini Revolver, but it is small enough to carry in most of my pants. It also works really great in a vest, jacket, or sweatshirt.
The price runs around $40.00, not bad considering the level of concealment you get. This holster is much thinner than other similar holsters, as well as a bit cheaper.
Work:
When I work, I drive a vehicle or sit for hours on surveillance. So, the natural selection for this type of work would be a shoulder holster. However, if you've shopped for a quality shoulder holster, you probably know they vary greatly in price, quality, and comfort.
Now, I love leather shoulder rigs. They have a nice nostalgic feel, good comfort, and great quality. But, I did not want to spend $150.00 - $200.00 for a solid shoulder rig. I stuck with a Galco Classic Lite rig for many moons, but it's suede finish always bothered me a bit. In 2007, my MP unit purchased a bulk order of Gould and Goodrich K Force leather shoulder holsters. We paid arond $50.00 a piece for them, and when they arrived, the put my Galco to shame. They were extremely well-built, very comfortable to wear, and felt the same as a shoulder rig many times the cost. I found that I could buy the same rig at Galls.com for $59.99, I jumped at the chance.
I love this shoulder rig. The best part of all was when I ordered mine, I got a free upgrade to a double-mag pouch instead of the single one. Not sure if this was a mistake or intentional, but I know this rig is the best shoulder rig on the planet for the money.
