I've been a lurker for a while now and have decided that it is finally time to introduce myself. My name is Ben Rial. I've been a smith for close to 19 years now and most of those years have been spent researching and crafting my biggest obsession: blades. I have a particular fascination for 14th-15th century swords and daggers but blades of all varieties and cultures hold interest for me. I have been a live steel combat practitioner and am the current president of the White Oak Historical Society that I have been involved with off and on for 20 years. I find myself particularly attracted to designs and methods of construction with historical influence. I am basically a one man show in my shop, for I am a full time bladesmith. To help supplement the custom work I do I am a dealer for CAS/Hanwei and utilize some of the excellent (imo) blades designed by the masterful Tinker Pearce for many of my more "off-the-shelf" models, though virtually everything is made to order (remember, one man shop). I do hand forge custom swords on request and all daggers, knives, most of the axes, and all ironwork I personally forge. I am always looking to learn more and appreciate comments, questions, and constructive criticism of my work. I strive to craft every piece to the best of my ability and accommodate my customers. Here is an example of my latest custom sword project.

Thank you all for your kind words and the welcome. I shall endeavor to get some pics up pronto. I'm a little confused by the regs here. Apparently I am unable to post in the "Makers" area yet. As a craftsman who makes a living (most days) making blades, is it okay for me to post elsewhere?

That's a little odd but I don't think it'll be permanent. My guess is that you'd have to be well established as a craftsman of the forums; i.e just stick around a bit and people will get to know your work. This is just my speculation however. All of my blades are eastern and I love them dearly but I've yet to own a custom euro. Odd considering I'm English I'm hoping to break the mold soon. I'm certainly looking forward to it and please, post more of your blades, sir.

You should be able to send a PM to Paul (username 'admin'). Or some of the other mods and ask them for access.. It's just a way of screening less than scrupulous or trustworthy types, and I see no problem with you being given the M&V status.
And yes, you're welcome to post projects and the like anywhere else they'd be suitable as well, so far as I understand the rules.

Greetings Mr Rial Welcome to SBG ! I hope you will enjoy your time with us. Feel free to hang out and chat here, there's lots of good folks on this forum. As to having a manufacturer account, I think you should be given one. I suggest that you send a pm to Paul (admin) (like my forum-mate suggested) and Kaizen (one of the forum's behind-the-scene staff member), and ask for a manufacturer account. This should allow you to share your products in the M&V sub-forum. BTW I just browsed through your website and I like your stuff
