I monster downsized my collection over a period of about three years myself. I found that if I owned fewer swords, I enjoyed them more. I don't knock people who have large collections, but a massive collection does not suit me. I could not imagine having time to handle, cut with, or even properly care for a collection of 50-100 different swords. For me, that would just be really expensive wall art. I like to keep things streamlined, which for me is right at about 10 swords. If I get a new one, I need to part with something to make room for it. I only have a couple things I would never, ever part with - those bearing sentimental value.

Hah! My collection is down from its once over 60 swords glory to about 25. Its down from having over 5 Albions to having none. From having over 10 Atrims to having 2. From Having over 10 Katana from all sorts of makers to having 5. 1 10th the collection? hah I say.

You have no idea guys how much those swords speak to me ( that or i'm having a schizo episode ), that 1435 and the austrian without even mentioning the XIIa.1 and the 1508... you guys are literally killing me ! Cause yes, i'm about to leave the XIII's obsession starting with the X15 from Gus

the 1435 is one of those swords that I saw in some internet archives while doing research and fell in love with it, but there were so few made I figured I'd have to eventually talk Gus into making one for me because I'd never see one on the classifieds. I think Gus said there's only 2 of these in existance right now. that double fuller that terminates in a point is something I just love. had considered doing it on my XVI.1 but Mike talked me out of it. in March I'll get to see if he was right or if I should have gone with my gut.
also that X.15 is another one I'm looking forward to seeing. progress is being made on it, still not sure when it will be done but. . . its coming and it is going to be sexy.

Hey Tom, does Gus ever plan on making a type XI at all?

No plans for type XI right now. they are a very niche type for collectors and hard to sell. Gus likes to build his swords using measurements taken from antiques and type XI swords from history that Gus has specs on, if I recall correctly, tend to be a bit clunky and not as agile as most modern collectors prefer. these tended to be really long swords used from horseback, people didn't tend to duel with them, they rode in chopped once as hard and they could, rode past, turnd and did it again. not really a finesse type; at least not the ones Gus has had experience with. this is why Gus tends to prefer the long Xa from this time period instead of the XI because there were Xa that were agile enough to be fun. it all comes down to the market really and type XI is hard to sell.
you could always commission one. that's pretty much the only way an XI is going to see the light of day anytime soon.
eventually, I intend to have one really good example of all the major types and I include XI as a major type but to be honest it will probably be one of the last to get added to my collection. so don't wait for me

Agreed and double agreed. This is my plan as well... and that will likely be the last type of sword I focus on also.

Understandable, Tom. Though I've heard good things about the handling of Albion's type XI's (Ritter/Hospitaller), I can see how the cavalry type would be low on Gus' priorities. A commission would be a long way off, it was a struggle to budget the XIIIb.1 as it is, but it's a thought.
Thanks for the info.

well kittenslayers 1435 arrived at it's nex stop on its tour of the states and europe ,my first impressions weren't of the sword but of the bloody fantastic packing tube luna sent it in,it would take a bomb to damage this blade
i've had a bit of a fondle of this sword, and it is amazing,it's my style of blade big burly and made for the heaviest of cutting, the hilt furniture and scabbard are truly a work of art,i took some comparison shots of it alongside my gsow and my 1326,it outclasses the gsow by its sheer prescence
my poor 1326 looks like a dagger compared to it  ,it's been a pleasure and an honour to have spent a few hours with this blade, but its time to pack it up and send it on to its new owner (the lucky swine) packed.JPGfirst look.JPGfullers.JPGgsow1.JPGscabbard.JPG1326.JPG

It's got balls of steel. It needs them to stand up to that monster of a sword. Lol.

Hahaha, thanks, mate! I wanted something that would keep the overall size and dimensions down but still be protective. Got the idea from Brenno. She's a mighty blade that one. Good to see it made it across the atlantic safely.
