I have always been fascinated by swords, And I intend to start a collection this coming year. I'm a bit small of stature, so I think I'd like to start out with a shortsword of european make, something between 24-28 inches. (I'm not 100% on this bit, so if you have a suggestion, shoot) I do intend to swing it around a bit, but I wont be hitting any targets with it. I plan for it to spend most of it's time hanging on my wall, regardless, I'd still like it to be of reasonably sound construction. (No rattling or rat tail, lip is fine) I'd like it to be >160$.
So in short: Preffered Shortsword Sound Construction Under 160$
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi and welcome to SBG! You might want to check out either of these two swords: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ry+V+Sword www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... eval+Sword I can't comment on the Hanwei piece, and their old line tends to be a bit hit and miss, but perhaps a member who is more knowledgeable on Hanwei's old lineup than I can chime in on this one. The Windlass one, though perhaps slightly larger than what you asked for, has gotten some good reviews and seems to be one of their more popular models. Though neither models will be ideal in performance or fit & finish, they are both solidly constructed swords that I think are excellent for their prices. [EDIT] DOH! Voltan beat me to the punch with the Hanwei sword !

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Windlass Type XIV Arming Sword yet. I know it's an Andrew Jackson above your suggested budget, but this is THE sub-$200 shortsword. The Iberia-era Hanwei's wont handle like a real sword and while the Hanwei/Tinkers are excellent, they aren't short at all (though Sarge is correct that stature doesn't automatically assign you to a preference for a certain blade length. You'd be surprised). This is one of the rare gems from Windlass. And it was finally re-released this year after being one of their most missed discontinued models. www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ming+Sword

I've fallen in love with the Cold Steel Grosse Messer. (Which, oddly is nothing reminiscent of what I wanted)
