I'm not in love with how it looks MC, but I will ask to check it out as you are quite insistent on its quality.

I've never been drawn to that one either.

What do you think of the Kingmaker Sean? Have you handled it yourself?

I've not owned or handled this one... the Albion swords I have had were the Knud, Knightly, Baron, Ringeck, Munich, Regent, Burgundian, Squire, and a custom sword made from an Albion Squire Line Viking sword. The Kingmaker is a VERY attractive sword... I love the look of it... but it is bigger and heavier then I like my single handed swords to be.

While at albion I was told the Burgundian had the same blade, how did it handle, if you don't mind me asking?

I'll be damned... your right, they do. Well, i friggin LOVED the Burgundian... it was one of my all time favorite swords. Its blade is very similar to the Regent, VERY stiff, deeply hollow ground. Its point tracks like a dream... and it feels MUCH lighter then it is. The Blade taper puts the mass back a bit... its an awesome sword. It is not the best cutting sword... it cuts, but like the Regent, that is not its focus. It thrusts amazingly well. The Regent and Burgundian were both so awesome... I held on to them as long as I could... and they are the Albion swords I would most want back again if I had the chance, they make a great matched set. So the Kingmaker should be awesome, having the same blade. I know its a matter of taste... but I think the Burgundian looks way better then the kingmaker... I love the fishtail pommel... and it costs 350 less... I can't imagine picking up the Kingmaker over the Burgundian.

See, and I'm not actually a huge fan of the cross on the Burgundian, I do like the size better, and even liked he fishtail pommel, but don't care for the fishtail cross guard at all. Makes it seem, oh I don;t know, a little frilly, if that makes any sense?

You would be surprised how often albion makes a pair of swords using the same blade. Though each has its own unique personality

I wouldn't say frilly, per say, but it just never say right with me, despite my love of fishtail pommels; that's the major reason I prefer the Kingmaker over the Burgundian: the wheel pommel and upturned guard just seem to fit much better.

No accounting for taste... Do you prefer it to the tune of 350 bucks? Cuz if its 350 bucks more for basically the same sword...

I personally do. Since requesting any monetary refund from Albion can take upwards of a month to do. And I figured for our mutual benefit I would return the blade and show a little good faith by adding slightly more money into the mix. They have been quite understanding, and I would also like to ensure I get a blade that I know for sure I won't be dissapointed in.

Hey, I never said I liked that discrepancy. That's been my biggest issue with the two; except for a difference in pommel and guard, they're essentially the same sword, so why a 300$ difference? Anyways, I like the various parts that make up the Burgundian, I just don't like them together on the same sword. *Shrug* I dunno; fishtails and straight crosspieces don't sit right with me, I guess.

Oh Sean how could you let such a set go these two go, they are like Batman and Robin they go together that well, after reading Marcs review on the Regent and your comments here I think I might have to get me this little dynamic duo. Might have to call in the "birthday gift" slot for these.

I know... they ARE a perfect matched set... and the two Albions I miss the most from the ones I sold. If the regent and burgundian had been matched more I don't think I could have parted with them... my regent was blue and my burgunian a red brown, with a custom css scabbard in the same color. I wasn't in love with the red brown, but it would be a waste to toss a well made scabbard... ...I know had they both been blue, or green, or black, or antiqure brown... I would not have let them go. But those two went a long way towards paying for the hot tub.

Did you order the custom grips done by Albion Sean? Did you do the blue grip through them? How much extra was it, if you don't mind me asking.

I didn't get them direct from Albion, I got them second hand. All of my Albion swords I've gotten second hand... never dealt with them direct.

Hmm. Ok. Well the site says you have like five basic options, but they can do additional colors for a "fee." And I would like to know just what that "fee" is as it sounds rather dubious. Perhaps Mcapelli will know.
