So i ran out of the oil that came with my cleaning kit. I was told that gun oil would work so i stoped by Walmart and the only gun oil they had in was Remington Rem-Oil so i got a small bottle. i just want to make sure this oil will work bucuse after reading it closer it say's "Cleans dirt and grime from exposed metal surfaces while displacing non-visible moisture from metal pores Protects internal and external metal parts from rust and corrosion Exclusive Teflon formula provides a thin, long-lasting film that keeps actions working smoothly by reducing metal-to-metal wear 1 oz Bottle" But it has all kind of crazy Warning's like "Do not breathe vapors' Avoid skin contact" it has me scared to open it lol. i mean i tuch my blde now and again after cutting to fell the egde. but with this oil will i be able to do that becuse of the "Avoid skin thing" over all im just wanting to know if its safe to use on my sword's Edit or can i just use this becuse i have this

I use the spray version and the Rem Wipes on my Warder and have had no problem. You could go get a bottle of Mineral oil from a pharmacy if you are still iffy on the Rem.

Rem oil is fine--and it's actually better than pharmacy mineral oil because of the viscosity. Pharmacy mineral oil is quite thick and can pool--what you want is a nice thin layer coating the steel. Gun oils and sewing machine oil are perfect.

Yes, that's fine. It's oil for small electric motors, just like sewing machine oil. Their 'multi-purpose' oil might be a smidge more user friendly and engineered for better rust prevention and cleaning, but that stuff'll still prevent rust fine. It's probably just mineral oil derivative in there anyway.

Umm...ok. I'd be surprised if the 3-in one didn't have similar warnings, though. It's always considered a bad idea to breathe the fumes from any petroleum-based product. :?: Just don't huff the stuff, wash your hand and you'll be fine. The oil should only get on the rag you're using and the steel anyway.
I'd use the Rem oil if I were you (because it's specifically designed for cleaning and protecting steel weapons), but to each his own. It's just oil.

I've tried all the oils/products mentioned in this thread (and more) and they are all fine. Some taste worse than others but they all make your skin feel soft and other than being hard to clean off the tub after they are comfortable to soak in. Rem oil is nice on salad too- spritzes easily.
