Calm down, Rammstein. Find a dark room, put on some soothing music, and sit in the lotus position for a few minutes. Mellow, meeellloooowwww, meeeeelllllllooooowwwwwwwwww... ;D It looks like a standard katana sans tsuba to me. I have no idea of its historical plausibility, but I agree with Rammstein, it's beatiful. The white ito over black same is stunning!

Wow, that is beautiful. I wonder if one could put a tsuba on it without redrilling the peg hole.

Its a style of mounting called "Aikuchi" (close fitting mouth) you usually see this type of mounting in tantos and waks, (see the Chen Yoshimitsu Tanto as an example) it was designed to be worn with armor, never seen it done in a kat before though it does look particularly stunning...

I wonder if one could put a tsuba on it without redrilling the peg hole. -John Hmmm...I guess you might be able to pop off the fuchi, cut down the tsuka underneath by 1/8", chop or file the fuchi down to fit, and put in a skinny (1/8") tsuba??? I really don't know, I'm just making it up as I go... ;D I like it the way it is, myself. True, I might hesitate to use it for serious thrusting, but it would be fine and dandy for cutting (then again, the tsuka ito on a Japanese sword gives much better traction than the smooth grip of other swords ). I seem to recall recently saying that my next purchase would be a western sword. Zinje may have just made a liar out of me! ;D

Oh it looks great the way it is, I was just picturing it with a silver Tsuba (say that out loud ten times fast.) off setting the white and black.

For the sake of just getting it listed. I'll just call it the "kazemusha" (wind warrior) unless you all have any suggestions.

The kozuka is not razor sharp. I ran my thumb on the edge just enough to see if it was sharp. The edge on the katana however is pretty sharp.

Has anyone ever seen Azumi ? Japanese cut 'em up ?
There is this long haired insane/ unbeatable swordsman who uses one of these swords as his weapon of choice !! He is locked up by this ninja-clan as their secret weapon.
Apparently his excuse, as it may, for not having a tsuba was that he is SO good a swordsman he does not need any defensive restraints on his blade. Tut-tut. ;D

do you know if it has a secondary bevel? i am sorely tempted......... If you mean does it have a bo-hi on Omote and Ura( both sides of the blade), I would say it does. Most swords at this price do !

sorry i wasn't more clear... i was wondering if the edge was a secondary bevel.
i wonder, too, if the handle is removable or if the blade is glued in (i had a bad experience with an "elite" masahiro once). i mean half the fun of owning a sword is disassembling it, right?

i mean half the fun of owning a sword is disassembling it, right? I Ditto that, no questions about it - thats at least 25% of the fun in maintaining a sword So Zinje, whats the leading name for now? I tried to think about a name but nothing came up on my mind except few words which just doesn't fit.... 'white' / 'shogun' [already in use] / 'snow' [girly, no? :x] / 'bloodlust' < thats cool but..... i dont think it actually fits thesword lol.

There is no secondary bevel.
AZUMI! Damn... I forgot that film. It looked pretty cool. Was it a good movie? It was one of those films I came across that wanted to watch but forgot about.
