Only $60.00? Hmm. hmmmmmmmm. um. hmmm.
Ah, hmm. Ack! Must. Resist. Temptation. Weakening. Somebody tell me I don't need it. Somebody tell me it's not worth it. Somebody tell me there are serious flaws with it. Somebody tell me it's only a wall hanger with a rat tail tang.
Help.

To play devil's advocate...
It is only a $60 katana. And you get what you pay for. Although, Musashi has done a good job of giving a little more than what you pay for... so I don't know.
I agree that it is a totally stunning sword. I'm not crazy over the lack of tsuba though. Also, the white ito on black same, while very visually stunning(color wise), makes the tiny inconsistencies of the diamond shapes a little more obvious, which I think detracts from the piece overall.
Put a tsuba on it. Spend an extra $25 to upgrade the wrap to perfection, and then throw the whole koshirae onto a Cheness 9260 DH blade, and then you have something awesome. If that were to happen I wouldn't hesitate to pay $400 for it.

actually the rason why I DO like it is because of the lack of tsuba and white wrap ;D If that gets changed I probably won't buy it . Honestly, as long as it can hold up well with little or no rattle and no deformation of the blade, I could care less what it's made out of. This piece speaks to me because of its originality. Definately a must have for an amazing price, at least in my book .

The forge that made the red shirasaya also made this katana and the new styles we have listed. The musashi shirasaya only has a single peg while the newer styles are double pegged. I actually asked the company why it had only one peg and honestly did not think it would hold but after seeing some reviews, i guess it does fairly well for it's price. I still feel it should be double pegged but that is not my call. If you are happy with the blade on the shirasaya you will be quite happy with the newer models as well. It will not be uncommon to find inconsistencies from one sword to the next, but that is very typical with swords in this price range. Just thought I would share in case anyone was wondering.

Very nice piece Roger! The more I see (and handle) Musashi Swords, the more I like them... ;D Interesting that you should mention the double pegging issue. I just completed a review of the mid range 'Wind Katana' www.sword-buyers-guide.com/hand-made-swords.htmlWhat surprised me was that even though it was single pegged, after taking it apart the friction hold of the tsuka to the nagako was pretty much perfect. Indeed, I found that to be the case with this whole sword - VERY carefully made for a blade in this price range. I'd still probably prefer it to be double pegged, but if they do every sword with a friction fit like this... P.S. Azumi! One of my favorite chop 'em up movies of all times. She is sooo cute....!

actually the rason why I DO like it is because of the lack of tsuba and white wrap ;D I hope it didn't come across that I thought the white wrap should go... rather, just make the diamonds a bit more perfect. With white on black just a tiny inconsistency is very obvious. Having used iwama bokken a lot which don't have tsuba, I've come to appreciate them... a lot.

Having used iwama bokken a lot which don't have tsuba, I've come to appreciate them... a lot. Are you talking in terms of having you hand hit by the opposing bokken, or in terms of your hand slipping forward (due to the lack of tsuba that is)?
