It depends on the type of art, move, and sword the question applies to. For me, the power comes from the ground/Earth, strength from the arm and weight/speed of the blade are addition to the impact. The cut depends on both the technique and sharpness of the blade.

Technically as swords are incapable of expending energy they can not exert power. The closest that can be said is that it comes from the Adenosine triphosphate your body metabolizes to accelerate the blade from rest. Is that everything you wanted and more. (On a possibly more helpful note the blade is accelerated from the hips)

RobrtLand wins. After all, that *is* the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Swords must be included in there, somewhere.

No matter what art you study, power comes from speed. Speed comes from form. Form comes from slow work. So you need to go slow to learn form to be fast to get power.

I beg to differ. As I said it would depend on the teachings and the particular "move" needing to be preformed. For example the Hung Ga style is known for its strong stances and its rooting to the ground. Hun ga practitioners generates power by strong stepping, using low stances and strong transitions from left to right. It is know that they can also draw their power from the Earth and not always about the muscles (Which Chi Gong plays a role within that art).
Im not saying the power is always from the earth and yes it is true that speed and mass has its roles too. What you are saying sounds like Tai Chi or even snake style Kung Fu, while what you are saying is not wrong, but it is not always for everything.

If power is equated to force than F=MA. That is really over simplifying it though as each style of sword uses different techniques and thus different muscle groups and blade weights differ. But from a physics point of view that's all it boils down to.

Swords get their power from greyskull. So does He-man.

Are you kidding? Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles!
The purpose behind this bloodshed, however, goes beyond simple explanations of religion or notions of justice. The truth is buried deep within those who wage the wars.
Since the birth of this planet, a memory has become deeply engraved onto the genes of all living things. A memory of aggression as a means of survival. A memory of fighting.
Humans seek to defend their actions in the name of truth. The act of fighting is in itself a true act. Without this truth the fighter will perish! To learn the way, ask your own flesh and blood, because ones flesh is the door to the truth! To master the way, ask your own ken, or fist, because complete knowledge of ones flesh, blood and fist is what creates ones Tekken! And TEKKEN! IS THE KEY! TO LIFE!

Great deal of truth to that.
Conflict is the natural state. Peace can only be defined as a absence of conflict. If something can only be defined as the absence of something else it really can't be considered the natural state of things.
