Hello chopchop. I'm Sal, and I show an unwavering interest in the Japanese sword. Some of the things that you showed in this thread have helped me quite substantially. Thank you very much my friend! I will most certainly work on this, and I am also a fan in your choice in swords. Thanks again. Sal Cheers sal . No wuckin' forries mate ! ;D

Sorry but after reading all the posts i'm still quite blur here... Does a left-hander hold his/her above the right hand or under it? Even though i'm a lefty, i feel comfortable with both hands either above or under... I intend to train both my arms for cutting so that both arms are just as good but i'm just wondering if the left goes above or under the right

Everyone, traditionally (meaning the way that EVERYONE will teach you) puts their right hand closer to the tsuba than the left (right over left).

Yep, I am left handed and yet I still use my katana in the right hand grip, although depending on how you are taught to use your katana it actually ends up using both hands to generate the power and guide the blade. Agreed though, great job on the thread chop.

Sword: Yes but there is more to it as you advance, single handed techniques depends upon sword school, ninjutsu has alot of them but I don't know many from other schools of japanese sword combat, gumdo also has mostly single handed techniques. In the combat style of the 5 rings book one handed techniques with two weapons are the paramount.

I'm aware it is more complex as you advance

I realize i am a bit late on this, but what an outstanding post. I am not lucky enough to have a school close by for JP swordsmanship and you have answered a few of the questions i have had nag at the back of my head. I look forward in hope that you have regular miny lessons like this. I am glad to hear from a practiced student of the blade. thank you it was explained very well. +1
on the tangent of the left handed: i have fenced for years and i personally never had a big problem with lefties. target area changes to what they are vulnerable to. I really think it is all mental and people can panic if they see something new but you get over that with experiance and keeping a clear head. i wouldn't count it as a secret weapon of some kind.
