Hi, Bill. I believe Sean bought one of the jian recently, so you can ask him if it's arrived yet and get his opinion. Anyways, as to the two dao, I'd go with the TFW one, even if it is untested, simply because of what I have heard of TFW's quality and the sheath; with that huge slot, the Hanwei dao's sheath is pretty much useless.

That's kind of how I'm leaning, I've heard excellent things about TFW's quality. Now that you mention it, I remember Sean saying he'd ordered one of the jian. I'll talk to him, thanks for the reminder.

Don't get the Hanwei Practical Kung Fu Sword... I had one and it was very 'Meh'. If you go Hanwei, go for the OxTail Dao... its MUCH better. www.edgefair.com/prod_Detail.aspx?id=SH1011 I've not had the chance to test and review the Jian yet... but I am hopping it will hold up will, first impressions are good. If you would rather go for a safer bet, I might sell ya my Hanwei OxTail at a discount and I'll pick up the TFW Dao and review it with my Jian. Also, a Kris Cutlery Dao IV might be worth a look.

I hadn't previously been aware of the Hanwei oxtail, that's what I get for not paying attention. Still, I'm leaning heavily towards the TFW dao. Although it would be nice to join the club of people who own swords formerly owned by Sean, you've outfitted half the forum it seems like.

Really makes me wish I had the cash, since I've been lusting after that sword for the better part of 9 years. I'd offer a trade, but I've got nothing you'd be interested in and I'd have trouble getting it out to you. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to what you think on the jian; the guard's not quite to my liking, but it'll give me an idea on the quality of the dao.

The only thing that makes me hesitate to say "let's talk" to Sean about his oxtail (Aside from not having the cash for another couple of months, that is) is the weight listed on the Edge Fair website, that sword sounds a little bit TOO light, I suspect the TFW dao would be of a heavier construction. Sean, is the Hanwei oxtail at all flimsy?

Its not flimsy... it has a good distal taper and a better stock edge then the Practical Gong Fu sword... its really a decent piece. Some have not heard of it cuz its from Hanwei's exclusive line... so Vendors like KoA are not allowed to sell it, only Edge Fair.

Well, my wife and my sister in law both voted for the TFW dao. I've got 100 dollars in the sword fund and it grows by 100 dollars a month, so in two more months I'll get the TFW dao and report my impressions of it.
