Hey Razor, how was that black surface coating on that thing? I mean, once the edge was sharpened, did it start to flake or anything? I was wondering the same thing.

Hey Razor, how was that black surface coating on that thing? I mean, once the edge was sharpened, did it start to flake or anything? I handled one of these once, and it seemed very solid and really looked good, but the black surface rendered it as a "display only" piece in my eyes, so I never even considered getting one... especially since it was a "shiny black", and not an unreflecting "matte" one like, for example, on the Cold Steel machetes. Hello Jjshade after I sharpen the knife the coating as not been flaking or anything like that yet but with a lot a use I can see the coating to start scratching off. I can see what you mean when you say display only because of the coating. A lot of tactical knives coating scratches off and what I have read and seen done is re coating or painting them. The raven claw is a fantasy knife and if you like the way it looks and you are just going to add it to your collection and/or use it for a show piece or wear it at a ren faire it should be fine, or If you are going to do a lot of cutting with it and you don't mind some of the coating scratching off. But if you are looking for a tactical/fighting knife with a flat black coating, don't get the raven claw. There are a lot of tactical knives you can get for around the same price.

I don't care if it gets some scratchs cause I going to dis-stress the finish and give it a more aged look

It arrived today ...... very very nice ...... a few minor flaws on the handle and the first 2" at the tip are not sharp but the blade is tapered and looks like it would put to much stress on the point which is still needle sharp the black blade finish is really beautiful the handle is so so ... the balance point is about 1" up the blade from the handle that for me is good with a knife this size the sheath is a surprise I was expecting the same crap sheath that came with my other three windless blades but it's made of semi-stiff leather with metal throat band and end cap very nice just begs for some personalizing though and it's not very tight on the blade and the rings make the blade sit off balance over all well worth the hundred bucks it cost from www.kultofathena.com

My favourite discipline is knife fighting but the raven claw is not a good fighting knife in the slightest. There are requirements that must be met to be a good fighting knife and the raven claw doesn't seem to have any of them.
