Mmm, I ran across a picture of the his statue in Kimswert doing some swiss guard research a while back. Can't recall what led me to him though. ARMA seem to be quite competent in the high medieval/Renaissance era's, I might be thinking early Dark Ages.

He was a bad dude I think like any rule most swords were within the 3-5lbs range with the rare exception as in this case I'm sure the matter of recovery after a swing they took into account but I would think you get hit with a 14lbs sword your not gonna return a blow that quickly even with the use of a shield the shock waves must be crazy I read that's why the flamberge swords were made with those lobed blades to make the opponent drop his weapon from the vibrations

The greek Lakonian sword sounds like an earlier version of what I'm referring, weighing around seven lbs. I believe, and for such a short sword. STOCKING STUFFER!!! (EDIT) 7lbs may be slander..?.. 2lbs? What??? ok ok

OK, I'm coming painfully late to this and all, but it's a personal pet peeve and I'm a raging fanboy, so bear with me...
No movie has ever been based on a Robert E. Howard novel, or short story for that matter, although there are several that feature settings and characters allegedly lifted from them. The stories of all three Conan movies, the King Kull movie and the Solomon Kane movie were entirely made up of whole cloth by the film producers, with some nominal lip service to their supposed source material; Red Sonja was based on the Marvel comics that have nothing to do with Howard's works; and the animated Red Nails, the first ever actual adaptation of a REH story, is either canceled or stuck in production limbo.

its funny if you look at the comics through the ages the 15cent comics show a conan with realistic weapons and a normal physical build then jump to the 25cent and he is getting arnold size then jump to the 75cent comics and the weapons and his build are crazy big its just the way society portrays its heroes just look at superman through the years compared to the modern day version its crazy and they wonder why kids take steriods

Production Limbo? More like Developmental Hell. I have the sinking feeling it's a dead project. Hell, the last site news update was in 2007: www.conanrednails.com--Edward

Dead in the water, at the very least. The last anyone's heard of the project was in 2008 when they assured it was still going forward.

Type XVII swords are usually of flattened hexagonal cross section, and many exhibit very little distal taper. In profile, swords of these two types could look almost identical in a profile picture. But the two swords would be totally dissimilar in handling and performance. Oakeshott described quite a few of the Type XVIIs as "feeling like sharpened steel bars, being intended primarily for bashing and poking at armour, and frequently having no serviceable cutting edge." Some seem to have not ever had a sharp edge, but mostly intended as impact weapons and for thrusting while half-swording

Newbie alert! I'm wondering if this discussion can include a question about a sword that looks like Conan's Atlantean sword. I have been trying to find experts to type and appraise it. Sounds like I found the right place, just might need directing to the right forum! Thanks!
