On Hanwei Katana... the Bushido and Bamboo Mat are also my favorite from Hanwei... and I've owned or handled almost everything they have from the Practical Katana to the Oni. I prefer the Bushido just a smidge over the Bamboo Mat... its lighter and faster and I love the hada.
For production Katana my favorites of all time are the Oni Forge Ryu, Kris Cutlery 26, and the Hanwei Bamboo Mat and Bushido.

I must agree with Sean ,iv handled all the Hanwei Katana (with the exception of the Paper Crane Katana) and the Bamboo Mat and Bushido are in my opinion the best two .Another good buy is the Green Bamboo Snake Katana ,though from what Iv seen the quality of Rayskin on these vary from piece to piece . Iv got two of them and although both are nice pieces the one in particular is a real gem with very large nodes and very nicely shaped tsuka .What I like about the Bamboo Mat's is that they seem to have reached a rather high level of QC on these , iv got three (bought them when still at the sub $400 pricing before the Hanwei Fire) , two of which I plan on customising at some point ,but all three came with good quality Rayskin ,tight wraps and just overall good build quality . What ill say is that over the years Hanwei have really stepped up their game somewhat with QC and in my opinion they are my first choice production katana .
My tastes though have since changed as Im no longer only interested in katana ,in fact I reduced my katana collection of late as my tastes have changed and I now prefer European blades .
