I don't see them mention any where? No review no test no evaluation ? Is there something wrong with this type of sword ?

There is a review all over this board on the Paul Chen Hanwei Banshee which is a modern interpretation of the Thai Dha from Krabi Krabong. It's very similar to the Burmese dao ( sic ) you are referring to.

They've been discussed a couple times. I seem to recall somebody buying an antique once? I can't remember. I think we don't see much of them here because, primarily, they simply aren't as well-known as, say, katana and your "typical" European or even Chinese swords. I've also had some difficulty finding a good one in the sub-$300 range. The best I've seen is Valiant Co.'s, but it's always been out of stock and had no price listed. In this section somewhere, somebody shared a link to what looked to be a good dha dealer, with several levels of customization on some models. I want one or two, myself, ever since my grandfather's then-fiancee (married now) gave me a display model she found in her attic, apparently acquired by her son in Viet Nam or something. Anyway, as I was struggling to figure out what it was, I saw here somewhere that somebody had found a Burmese Dha. "I wonder what that is?" I was stunned to find it matched my mystery blade perfectly, although with different furniture. Thus began my quest to find one of these. No luck so far. Got any good links to sellers? Oh right, there's the Banshee, too. I might pick one up in the future but for now I'm looking for something more...authentic? Aesthetically pleasing, perhaps? Anyway, it is quite popular.

I did a look up on some of them and unless you know somebody who practices Burmese or Thai weapon arts, you would be hard pressed to find one that is well made. If you do, it is either the Banshee or something antique/custom and pricey. Anything else is likely a wallhanger or junk.

There are one seller on e-bay that have decent pair of carbon steel semi sharp blade.

I would like to read your evaluation on this sword . Do you think a man arms with this dao can beat a man arms with da doa if they are equally skill ?I don't believe there was any historic account of such confrontation ( but I could be wrong ) .The closest this I read was when a few divisions of KMT were chased off the mainland by Communist force and some of them retreat the wrong way into Indochina and Burma and I bet some of them carried the Da Dao but by then Burmese was under British ruled and they considered the KMT as less of a threat than the Communist .

I think it is because for most people the dha doesn't really appeal to most due to looks or use or the fact it is a fancy machete. I like dha's they look like great weapons and I have always wondered how they work.

The first one to screw up would probably lose. It usually isn't about the sword rather the swordsman.

beta.rottentomatoes.com/m/bang_rajan/This is only movie that use dha in the battle that I could find sort like a S.E. Asian version of Brave heart .I don't think the dha is glorified machete because it is pretty fast and have a good reach but I think they prefered to use it in close range so they can kick , elbow and puched the opponent upclose . Garrett How your Da Dao come along ? , I need to start practice now because after watching the above mentioned movie I need to be lightning quick in case some Burmese weilding dha come crashing in to my campsite

Unfortunately, it is Luxembourg. I don't want to risk the cash to order and have something sent to the Canadian border to possibly be denied. Too bad.

That is one nice looking sword, I have to keep my eye open on the e-bay from now on. The things is I can not really tell tourist sample from the authentic one (unless the price is really high then I know it is antique ) .

thana, how's your dha coming along? Had a chance to pla--er--practice with it yet? The dha come along nicely. I hurt my back a few days after the dha arrived so it took a few weeks before I got a chance to practice with it .My Krabi Krabong skill is rusty because it had been a long time since my mandatory class in primary school but I can perform basic move with the dha .I am way out of shape because I was out of breath after merely 5minutes of the blocking, thrust, cut and slash drill with this dha. I ordered extra harden blade I suppose that in the ancient time this option reserved for battle because it would withstand abuse from blocking enemies' incoming blade without having the blade broke in half . The draw back is that the edge is not razor sharp and I had tough time cutting soft skin milk jug.I wish I have adequate time to practice with this dha ,it is sure give me a good cardiovascular work out.

Sounds great fun! , I like the dha and the Krabi Krabong, looks like a very exiting and a very effective martial art. I think I might get a cheap dha from ebay or something.
