Kukris are monsters. And cheap, too. I'd go with Khukuri House if you want a cheapie, they're still the real deal. Forged by real kami out in Nepal and I think they even have a military deal or something but then everybody claims that one. I don't know what their shipping is like, though, and I've never personally bought from them. Check 'em out, they go from $20 to several hundred dollars: www.thekhukurihouse.com/I wouldn't go with Cold Steel, myself, as I find them overpriced at best, but there are those who like them just fine. I think gunitgaurilla50 has one of their models and he seems well pleased with it. I have their LTC which is a joke. Well, I for one don't like it much, but I'm sure somebody else would think it grand. Plenty of options out there for Kukri. Even Windlass and Hanwei make 'em. yes i treasure my Gurkha only because of its edge retention and cutting power. The LTC is trash and should be discontinued. If I had a LTC, I would sell it

Sweet. I kind of want one for hunting and camping trips and whatnot. And I hope My Shiha will let me take one on our survival test. I don't wanna use a small knife for everything, I do that all the time as it is! yes, for hunting bring a big knife like a kukri and a small knife. I always use that combination when hunting and camping

I'd sell mine in a hurry if I could get the stains out of that stupid black coating. As it is, I'm keeping it as an abuser. If I break it, it's still gone. If I don't break it, it's still providing me with enjoyment. I'm just glad I bought it as a second and only paid $80-something, rather than the full price. The search for which leaves me stumped as I can't seem to find it on Cold Steel's site. $89.99 at True Swords, out of stock. Maybe they did do away with them, save the machete version? That's all it'd be good for, anyway... Anyway, $160 is a bit much ( www.coldsteel.com/39lgk.html ) and I can't seem to find it at True Swords (my benchmark for good deals on Cold Steel) so I'd advise against it for now. It'd benefit if they did away with that silly coating.

That makes things difficult. Unless you know of a local sporting goods store which might sell them on-site, or be able to get one for you, really there's no options. I bought mine at a gun show, but I doubt Canada has many of those. Probably the best bet would be a postal money order or a check to any of the places mentioned that accept them. Oh, you found one? A what? Sirypate? Never heard of it. 15" is a healthy size, though. Further details would be great. I wonder if you mean the Sirupati from Himalayan Imports... yhst-7333098713883.stores.yahoo.net/15inchsirupati.html This one? Looks a monster, indeed, and HI has quite the reputation, so if this is the one you should be quite pleased with it.

If PayPal is all they'll take, then you're stuck with PayPal. I've never had a problem with PayPal save spam and fraud emails (which I delete first and foremost) but it seems others have had troubles. It also requires a bank account so it's tough for younger folk to get. The only other option is a credit card. See bank account. Unless you can mail a check or money order, then you're unfortunately stuck. Look into it, shoot off an email or something.

They do have one without the coating which is made of VG-1 San Mai 3 steel, but its like a gazillion dollars ($400)which is ridiculous

I don't use paypal because money transfers take forever. And don't you need a steady job for a credit card? As for the other methods I'll look into it.

Yeah, the san mai model is a passer for sure. Seems factory second or second hand is the best way to get a Cold Steel. Or go through...well...anybody but Cold Steel. Like True Swords. Looks like eBay worked fine for you. A quick search on Google leads to prices still in excess of $110. Ouch. I've never had a PayPal transfer take more than two days. Often times it's been instantaneous. I must just get lucky? Also yes, income is pretty much required for a credit card. Unless you can use your parents' card and just pay them? Though I'm not sure they'd be too thrilled with buying a big expensive knife.

For what it's worth, my khukri is a Windlass. It set me back $20 about five years ago. I'd like to get a nice one someday, but to be honest, if you want a good, reliable knife without dropping a load of cash, the windlass model gets you one hell of a knife. This is it here: www.atlantacutlery.com/atlantacutlery/detail.aspx?ID=378Up to $40 now, but one hell of a tough knife. Differentially tempered with a true convex cross-section. Makes a wicked cutter as well as a great all-round tool. Like I said, been using (And abusing) mine for years and it's in my opinion the best knife I own.

As to the windlass, do they come sharp, then? Or blunt like everything else? I wonder if a bevel would hinder it? I personally think $40 a bit much for it, and would opt for something from Khukuri House first, but if AC/Windlass is the only one to take snail mail money, they may have to do.

Swords are one thing my family never gets me, I have to get my own. They have a strong dislike of knives and swords for some reason.

Whats KLO? And I am 18.

KLO is a play on SLO ("kukri-like object" versus "sword-like object"). Hurry and get a real job if you're 18. Get me one, too, while you're at it. Being unemployed sucks.

Not only that but get some mates together and rent a place, then the backyard can be a tamishigiri station and sword-workshop. You won't even have to pick up your cut bottles til rent inspection day.
