Please do share some thoughts on the new Savoy, and if you could, some thoughts on how it feels in hand compared to your Templar. The stats lead one to believe that it should be up there with the Kriegschwert.

Beautiful collection, SwordFan!
I have a quick question, if you wouldn't mind offering your thoughts. I'm trying to work out the difference between VA's Anitque Brown and their standard brown. In searching for photos throughout the web I can't get a consistent reference point (I've seen the same shade of brown called Antique, Dark, Standard, and Light Brown). Would you say that Antique Brown tends to consist of muddy to almost black shades of brown, while Standard Brown is slightly lighter with more shades of red? I'm just trying to lock down this last detail before I give Sonny the final word on my customizations (I just recently placed an order for the Savoy = )

Not 100% sure on this but the "antique" colors will show patchiness and darkened spots. This is to replicate leather aging or use w/ oil permeation, dirt, etc. The other colors (standard brown) will look more uniform throughout. It's a bit easier to tell with green vs antique green, and moreso with red and antique red. Still quite hard to tell sometimes, especially since the dyes are hand brushed/stained on. I'm just basing my guess on my old oxblood Templar, brown Crusader (got off Sean), blue Bristol (off slayer) - beautiful one color throughout. I since sold them to our sbg members SwordFan's got very good pics: this may be Sonny's pic though of his sword, if they don't mind me borrowing it: Notice the different spots of darkness and lightness in the colors? (antique blue, antique grey) Again, not easy to tell and I would never bet on myself guessing whether a color is antique or not. If you think the browns look that way - you're probably correct --> You want to try and match the color with the pictures seen here and see whether you like it. (which is why chris made the thread) It's not always black and white

Hi there ,well ghosts explanantion pretty much summed up the differences . The best way I can describe the antique colours is patchy and by this I mean that some areas are a little darker whilst others a little lighter . This gives the overall look of an aged scabbard that has faded over time . Personally Iv got Antique Grey ,Antique Brown ,Antique Red ,Antique Green and Antique Blue . Some colors are easier to show in the pics than others though with the Antique grey showing up the best in the pics . No two are the same either as they are hand done ,so for example I have a couple of Antique brown scabbards the one has a almost faded look to it with darker patches whilst the other is a little darker with darker patches of brown/black to it . Both look great ,just different . Enjoy the Savoy , its a really nice piece and great value for money .

Thanks, ghost. From what I have been seeing, I think what you are saying sounds right - that the "antiqued" version of a color is, essentially, a processed version of the base color. It also appears, and this makes perfect sense because these are as you said all hand made, that there is a fair margin of variation from piece to piece - which, actually, I kind of like.
I decided on Antique Brown for my handle and belt because I like the patchy look, and the added feel of "history" (and because I ultimately through up my hands and decided that any of these shades of brown I choose is probably going to look fantastic anyway).

Oh wow, swordfan replied while I was typing and pretty much confirmed everything I was guessing. Thanks again, guys, for you help. Thanks, I've been oogling over your Savoy for the past few weeks (seeing your pictures has been helping me get through the wait )

Howdy all! Sorry to resurrect an old thread. My birthday is coming up, and I am definitely going to get something from Sonny's CSS. I am thinking either the Malatesta, the Kriegschwert, or the Castille. My question is for Swordfan: Where did you get the antique grey finish? I can't find it on the CSS website. I am thinking of going antique green/grey. And btw, beautiful collection! So much drool on my keyboard right now

Sonny should be able to do the antique grey for you. I remember sometimes it was hard to find his colour options on the CSS- that's why I started this thread. Jut show him a pic of what colours you want.

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread. These CSS color samples are really helpful (I wish VA posted more examples on their website). After much consideration, I have decided to order The Noble by Valiant Armoury with the antique grey scabbard. In terms of hilt assemblies, would the antique grey hardware or the blackened hardware work best with the antique grey scabbard? Any guidance would be much appreciated.
