All my life, ever since I saw Disney's Robin Hood, I have always loved anthropomorphic, talking animals. It stems from my love for animals, and the fun one can have matching human personalities to animal behavior. The wise owls, the cunning fox, the energetic rabbit, and so on. So, I suppose its no surprise when I started sketching out stories for a animal world of my own. These stories all came together with the creation of the main character, Kody of the Blue Wind. A silver furred Alpha male wolf, Kody [named after my own best friend of a dog], is a loyal, faithful and determined soul. His occupation? Why, a Tolkien-esque Ranger of course! So, I knew I had to design a sword for him. The result was Hréofénd, Storm Bane. Hréofénd has a blade around 30" - 32" in length, and a handle of 7.5". The weight....well, I have no clue, but around 2.5 lb would be nice.

That is a very sweet looking design, Aaron; I like the guard/pommel combination.

As a fellow lover of Wolves... I dig the concept. The pommel looks as tho it may be tricky...

I thought that too for a bit, Sean. But I also figured that one could use the Atrim configuration of an alan wrench and bolt. Slide the pommel on and use an allan wrench to secure it. From a strictly medieval point of view, I'm sure there would be a way to peen it.

Its not so much that... its more that its so little total material that the pommel itself wouldn't weigh much.

Man this reminds me a lot of one of my earliest sword designs that had a massive back story but mine was more about the moon than wolves it was the war sword of a tribe of elves who worshiped the moon and the sword was made of like steel from a meteor (I have a crazy imagination) also my design was a little more fantasy decorative craziness

That's what I thought. Overall, it's a very attractive design, and I like the crescent pommel, but it looks to me like it aught to be a little bigger/thicker, for better balance.

I agree about the size of the pommel. It just did not look right at a larger size to me. Although, I did plan for a howling wolf head to be in the space of the crescent, but I'm not THAT good with a mouse, lol.

you could always have a round pommel with a raised portion in the crecent shape shown in your design. Just a thought.

he only sword i designed with a back story was one im hoping to finish soon. My back story was hat in an alternate future the world is ruled/enslaved by demons and the King of the last resistance of men sends a small group on a suicide mission into hell itself to forge a sword capable of taking down the Demon Lords, as in this story regular weapons "cant cut it" no pun intended. A final battle ensues and when all hope is lost and the defenses are crumbling, one lone survivor of the group returns, newly forged sword in hand to engage the prince of darkness himself. It is said that the last words the great demon lord heard was when the wielder whispered the name of his powerful blade....
wrote that back in 7th grade when i was.....12 maybe 13. and im finally growing close to having the sword in hand. i cant wait to start working on it when the hilt furniture comes.

i would place something like a gem inside the pommel. i have a really nice moonstone which would perfectly in that gap i think. and yes moonstone does exists, and no it doesn't come from the moon. www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&safe= ... a=N&tab=wi
