That's a pretty cool lookin' axe there Brenno! How heavy is it? Is there going to be any handle "wrap" or just the steel as-is? The twisted handle looks like it would grip well but may be a little rough on the hands after some use.

That axe is quite beautiful, as is all of your other work I have looked at. I am amazed at your creativity and how you can make things that nice in your own home with simple power tools. After looking at work from makers like Angus Trim and especially your home-made goodies I have felt a strong urge lately to try my hand at sword crafting, and am in the process of getting the tools to do it.
This idea has probably already crosssed your mind, but I think now that you can forge you could apply some of the things such as that twist design of the axe handle that you can't really do with grinding on guards and whatnot for your swords. Quillions twisted like that and maybe heat colored would look amazing on a good blade like the ones you make.

Ooh, that sounds like a grand idea. Twist a guard or two and color it. That made be laugh out loud! Thanks, -Khalastas I did not even see that. Again with this Khalastas persona.

And watch out if you DO try to steal from him, he'll be drunk off of chocolate honey porter/syrup and cannot be held responsible for his choppins. Like the song "Dirty old town" says, I'm gonna make me a big sharp axe-- Shining steeeeeeel tempered in the fire! I'll chop you doooooown, Like an old, dead tree. Dirty old town, Dirty old town!
+1 for posting a Pogues song

Sure twisted quillions have crossed my mind. The only problem i have will be getting them back up to a high polish. It would take hard work, and believe it or not I dont like boring tedious work.
But yeah, I could probably make a wicked cross or two.
Darkhorse - PM if you need any guidance. Good Luck!

how do u get those flawless bevels and such??? this refering to your swords...not the ax...yet!!! ;D The trick is to always run long strokes of the angle grinder. Try to run the whole length of the blade at once. Just watch where you start and finish the stroke as they wont be quite the same. You will need to make some corrections to it as you go, just always use long strokes, and dont underestimate the damage it could do if you dig it in. to get the bevel down I'll usually cut hard down at the edge, then try to smooth it to the centre, then do it again till I'm 0.5mm from halfway through the thickness at the edge. (So at the end of angle grinding you have a 1mm edge. Belt sanding will take that down a bit more. You want a 0.7mm mm edge when it's heat treated.

+1 for posting a Pogues song haha +1 for knowing who they are Brenno, I was thinking about that axe and armor-piercing and then it occurred to me: Are you going to try your hand at armor anytime soon? Completely different skill set in some areas I'd imagine, but still might be fun.

No time soon, too specialised. I don't have the parts. And I'm not even going to dream of chain mail; Boring.

Maille (That's how it spelled, and I don't like the term "Chain Mail" because it's basically saying "Chain Chain") isn't as boring as you may think. You don't have to do the standard European 4-1, there are so many different types that can be turned into many things. I can understand not doing armor right now, but I think that in the future, you could create some really unique stuff, just like how your weapons are so unique.

Chain maille is ENDLESS. I am a huge fan of very fine scales attached to very fine maille, ULTIMATE armor. One day I will find the 3/16ths welded link shirt, with 1/2 inch scales riveted to each.
