This will be the first sword I ever buy. My budget is about at a maximum of $300. I enjoy power metal and fantasy, and so would like an epic-looking sword to reflect this (not a plain, basic, copy of an "actual" medieval sword, something more awesome looking ) Yet I am also looking for the ability to cut and slice through things, so no stainless steel wall-hanger only swords. Basically 3 major criteria -$300 or less -awesome fantasy-looking -functional I have had some ideas, mainly 1) Chaos Fantasy Sword www.armsofvalour.com/miva/mercha ... ory_Code=M 2) Heron Mark Sword (huge fan of Wheel of Time, but unsure about this one...) www.museumreplicas.com/p-236-her ... _59641=on& Any advice?

The Chaos Fantasy Sword is made by Gen 2. They're known for making a solid sword but I'm a bit confused about the description of the sword. I'm assuming they mean that the point of balance is 6.5" up on the blade... because if the point of balance is halfway down the hilt of the blade its going to have some serious issues when it comes to cutting. Its going to be a massive bastard sword type thing that has the balance of a rapier... talk about weird! I'm not so sure about the Heron Mark sword. Its being sold by MRL and marketed as a Windlass product - I'd be afraid that the blade would be a bit whippy. Windlass swords are also not sold with an edge so you'd have to pay for sharpening too. Add that to the cost of the sword or else sharpen it yourself. Personally I'd go with something like Hanwei's Dark Sentinel. www.cashanwei.com/prod_Detail.aspx?ID=SH2066A little bit Euro, a little bit Eastern and a little fantasy. One hell of a tough blade though and one hell of a cutter.

Depending on your cutting mediums, either would work, but you'll find most will recommend the Chaos. The Heron Mark is on my wishlist, but that's just me; everything I've seen about it (reviews and the few cutting videos) has led me to believe it would serve as a decent light cutter (milk jugs and the odd plastic bottle), but not much more. FYI, the Heron Mark can be bought here at Kutl of Athena for 80$ less than through MRL. As to the Chaos, it has a very well written review here at our own home site that will say everything about it better than I could. Hope that helps and if you go for the Heron Mark, post a review! The only in depth one I've found had the reviewer leaving it unsharpened, so we've no real clue to its cutting potential (whoever else owns it is keeping quiet, too).

Thanks for the speedy responses As for the sentinel sword, it's a bit too plain and Eastern for me, so I think I'll not go with it, for now. As of now I am leading a bit more towards the Chaos Fantasy Sword, but if I do end up taking a chance on the Heron blade, I'll let ya know how it works.

I'd wager the Chaos Fantasy Sword is a fine sword for the money. I'm sure that the point of balance is 6.5" up the blade. With a sword like that and a point of balance that high up it might feel a bit heavy at first. Just be aware of that. Other than that Gen 2 has a good rep. for making solid swords.
Good luck with the sword.

The Guardian sword is awesome too, but with sharpening and shipping it gets pretty expensive. For this reason alone, i may opt to choose the Chaos sword. Again, thank you though

I have the Gen 2/Legacy Arms Chaos sword... I had my grip re-done with purple leather over cord and the scabbard re done in purple... its epic. I have the dagger to match also. The stock grip on the Chaos sword is crap. Its cheep feeling and lame. Its also round rather then oval... making edge alignment difficult. However... the sword itself is a BAD $emprini. Its maybe the most heavily used sword I own... I have had it for a long time... and I have cut heavier targets with it then anything else. Heavy duty plastic laundry bottles, pumkins, and even a 4x4 a few times that I was using as a cutting stand. No damage to the sword. It has crushed its enemy's, seen them driven before it, and heard the lamination of their women. The DarkSword Guardian Sword is my favorite looking sword they make... and I'd very much like one of those as well. I'd get the Chaos sword if you plan to or can have the grip re-done. Sonny at Valiant Armory's Custom Sword Shoppe could do it for you. If you can't re-do the grip... you might dig the Guardian.

Firecy! Push that price limit a little more and go for the VA Warder...I need not tell you about it too much...The scabbard itself is worth more than the asking price. $350 from VA with customizable color schemes and riser choices. The value for this set is easily twice what is asked. custom-sword-shoppe.com/shoppe/p ... 15il99v4s5 Go a few days w/o food imo Daniel Sinclair's review here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=362Didn't he actually buy two of these?

I'll second shopping at Kult of Athena. I've bought from them, and I have no complaints.

HAHAHAHA!!! LOL! I read this and I couldn't help but burst into a fit of laughter! Lamentation, Sean, is the word you're looking for. Lamination - well we all know what that means! I read what you wrote and thought about it - envisioned several women laying on top of each other and then I imagined what I'd do if I had several attractive women willing to do that for me... Anyway yeah continue...

Heh heh, Sean made the same joke I've been making for years. Ahnold definitely sounded like he said "lamination". what does women getting laminated sound like, I wonder?

Do eet. Only reason I didn't suggest it is because it was over your budget.

If you are looking for something more different, might I suggest the Windlass Raptor? kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=501090 It's well below your price limit, it's fairly tough and certainly looks the part. The only problem is that it comes unsharpened, but Kult of Athena can handle this for you or you could do it yourself.

Go the Warder you will not be disapointed it is a great sword and scabbard comdo and very reasonably priced (I have one) , my second would be the raptor heard good things about this one but never handled it, still looks very fantasy/ elfish in my option. If you are willing to spend a touch more look on the SBG Store there is a lot of Darksword Armory sword for around $300ish just take a look at the new Executioners sword, all I can say is that I will be buying one who can say no to a sword with " I Spare Nobody" written on the blade ( viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3995)
