Looking for a good first euro to get me started did some looking arround and found a few I liked now can any one help me decide which to get? Also please dont come in here suggesting something more costly than what I already have on the list. I know you guys like saying save up and buy something more expencive but thats not what I am looking for right now. Looking for a good cutter that wont break the bank, will have a decent edge(or not be to hard to sharpen, would like to get to cut with it shortly after I recive it), and of course is sturdy. Tinker Pearce Sharpened Bastard Sword(SH2400) 164.95 Tinker Pearce Sharpened Single Hand Sword(SH2404) 159.95 Kris Cutlery Baselard(KRSBL) 149.95 Hanwei Hand and a Half Sword(SH2365) 109.95 Hanwei Agincourt Sword(SH2371) 109.95
So any thoughts?

I can't speak from experience, but everyone seems to rave about the H/T's, so I'd personally go with one of those. Which one would depend on your preference.

Vince is right, it's hard to go wrong with an H/T. They're a hair more expensive than the old CAS models like the Hand & a Half and the Agincourt, but they're miles better.

I don't really have any experience with these swords except the Tinker single hander and it's a good sword for the price. The edge on mine came sufficiently sharp tho I got it a bit sharper. There have been complaints about the edges on the H/T line but I think they have been working on that. I'd forget the other two Hanweis mentioned as they are from an older line and tho cheap I don't care for the look of them and I would suspect they wouldn't handle well but that is just my opinion from what I've gathered from others remarks.
I have five Kris Cutlery swords and they all came really sharp and are good swords. The style of the Baselard hasn't appealed to me but if it does to you I have no doubt it's a great sword.
I hope I never tell someone to save up and get a "better" sword as I find that condesending. If I do ever say something like that I hope the person I said it to comes to my house and hits me in the mouth. I'll pay for their gas.

If you like the look and style of the KC Baselard I'd get that one. I have been very tempted to get that one myself. As Ric said... Kris Cutlery swords are very well made and come super sharp right out of the box. The H/T swords you mentioned are great weapons too... but they do often have dull edges and you'll have to put some work into it. Also... they have the hex-nut construction which some like and some don't. Of those two I like the EMSHS better... such a great sword.

At the moment my H/T Bastard is my favorite sword in my collection. Wicked fast with both one and two hands. The edge out of the box was very underwhelming. I paid to get it sharpened, but there is no reason anyone couldn't do it themselves.
I didn't like the feel of the H/T EMSHS. It felt heavy and floppy in comparison to the Bastard. I didn't actually get a chance to swing it though. Obviously it has a huge fan base so my dislike is strictly personal and not indicative of the swords quality. The point being choosing between the Bastard and EMSHS is more up to which you personally like the feel of more. I would highly recommend trying to get your hands on each before you chose.

I'd also like to cast my vote for the Tinker EMSHS. I mean I guess you've already made your decision, but I can tell you from experience that the EMSHS came paper cutting sharp and I've used it several times for light-medium cutting and it's always performed well. Looking at the KC Baselard I'm a bit confused though, I always thought the defining characteristics of the Baselard were "half-moon" shaped guard and pommel - Holbein type if they're inward curving as seen here: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ard+Dagger

From YOUR experience at any rate... I've owned two EMSHS's and both of them were a bit dull... I've handled three others and one of em was well sharpened, the other two were dull. Hanwei has been very hit and miss with the edge quality of the Tinker line... something that has been often discussed here. That sword.... the EMSHS *IS* an awesome sword for the cash... quality edge or not.

I will be honest I do not like that one nearly as mutch as I like the KC. version which I like due to how simple it is. The blade is also wide which I like as well the hanwei version looks too pointy to cut with and not all that good for cutting a bit too mutch like a stelittospelling(the womens shoe) and I hear of those getting broke too mutch LOL
Also I may get a Hanwei Dark Sentinel or Hanwei Banshee as well.
Thank you all for your input.

Of course it's from my experience, I don't have anyone else's. In all seriousness though I've had two EMSHSs and both came paper cutting sharp - as did my GSOW. My longsword on the other hand... not so much. BTW, I'm not saying the KC Baselard is a bad choice, and I'm not saying it's not an attractive sword, I'm just curious why they opted to name it something specific like Baselard when it seems to lack the defining characteristics of a Baselard - unless I'm mistaken that is, which as been known to happen. If I had been the designer I would've gone with something a bit more generic as a name - something like KC Short Sword or KC Tactical Short Sword or something. That being said, I'd be willing to guess that it'll be an awesome weapon. Seems people have nothing but positive stuff to say about them.
