Hi, I've been lurking in this forum for a while now but I thought I had better join to get some advice before I part with my hard earned.
I have been collecting SLOs for about 15 years now, I have wasted plenty of money on wallhangers that thought I could swing and backyard cut with. Once bitten, twice shy...well more like half a dozen times bitten!
My practical katana is my pride and joy but about 6 years ago I bent the blade cutting a tree branch when I still thought a katana had the same cutting abilities as a light saber, doh! I managed to straighten the blade but there is a slight twist in it now that I see if ever I am admiring it closely, this leaves me depressed.
To try and eliminate this happening again I have been looking to find a sword that can take the abuse of my poor technique against medium targets but also the inevitable over long cuts and miss hits.
Reading the review for the Cheness Cutlery 9260 spring steel swords I thought I had discovered the holy grail. I live in the UK, though, and England has no dealers for the Tenchi that I dreamed of. Whilst looking, though, I came across lots of reviews saying that the Cheness Swords are not as miraculous now as they seem.
The swords that I can buy in the UK are Hanwei and Cold Steel.
I want the toughest sword that I can buy without breaking the bank. Also I am 6 ft 2 in with a strong build and would love a large katana.
So: I have come down to choosing between Hanwei's PPK Elite XL or the Raptor Nambokucho.
The Raptor has a longer blade and tsuka, both of which I like. I would like to know which one is the toughest though? And any advice that you guys can offer is much appreciated.
Also if anyone is aware of any UK friendly alternatives?
Thank you for reading.
