Happy Monday!! Sneakypete got his mercenary grade Austrian Warsword and I got my XVI Bastard Sword. It will be a while before I compile anything like a review. But here is some cheesecake to compliment what Hiroshi posted (sans firehose marks ) First two shots left to right are the VA Kreigschwert, The Type XVIa 3 and the CF Chimera Austrian Warsword. Didn't have time or immediate funds to make scabbards right now. The scabbard in the pic belongs to the CF Austrian the other two will nestle in it without too much rattle... Impressions: This new XVIa 3 is magnificent. It shares some of the robustness of the XIIs with a strong forte, but it tapers to thrusting sword. That taper takes away the percussive force of the heavier swords and replaces it with a much more free moving weapon. This sword really feels good one handed. The Kreig has a 1st Gen lean grip. The grip on this new effort seems fuller to me. Square and more substantial. I like it. Very nice job on the polish. This is a first class sword, come with a fighting edge. I'm ecstatic. ( pssst, pssst, pssst. XVIIIe next Gus )

Think the next one is supposed to have a 38 inch blade. Gonna need a land bridge to park it...

Wow, I'm not struck by very many euro blades but that XvIIIe looks great.

Beautiful Dave, gosh I do wish I could have met your girl there before she went home but I'd hate to have delayed her that long. I guess I'll just have to wait and meet one of her younger sisters in the future.
I'm very glad to see that you have met her and are happy.
Gus' more recent designs have been nothing short of fantastic.
his XVIIIe's are sexy, and I can't wait to see what he turns out next.
we have every intention of wow-ing you guys as much as possible

That XVIa is a very interesting looking sword. It seems like it would be well suited to a wide range of applications. Anything from warsword to unarmoured dueling to barroom brawl (in a big room). I like the looks of it a lot. Gus has been telling me about this one, and how much I should have one. Now I'm starting to agree.

Nice interpretation of the XVIa. I like the diamond cross section, the fuller is nice too (I like a little longer fuller on the XVIa as well but this one is nice), I also like the longer guard as apposed to most of the originals I've seen. It is interesting that most of the modern interpretations of the XVIa (at least the ones I've seen) use the diamond cross section rather than the hexagonal section many of the originals had. This does look a very useful sword, very nice.

You lucky dog, Dave. The type XVIa is my favorite blade type for looks, and I just sold my best example! Mmmm. Heh, I have a feeling that gap in my collection won't stay open for long.

I'm really, really loving the looks of this sword, Dave. What's the overall length of it? I'm guessing 44 3/4" - 45" even, but I like knowing exacts.

True to it's advertised dimensions: 35" blade x 1.75" at the hilt. Grip is 7.5"; 10" guard to pommel= 45" overall. Weight a trim 2 3/4 lbs.

I see what you did there. She's a beaut! I'd love to see how this compares to the Crecy.

Another fine acquisition Mr. Kelly.
I've got an older Makers Mark XVIa with a 32.5 inch blade and an 8 inch grip that is pure poetry, I'm betting that yours will handle every bit as well.
