The "Are Swords an Addiction" thread prompted me to post this. I myself have under $1000.00 CAD worth of credit card debt due to sword buying activity. That`s 1.00 CAD=1.03616 USD 1.00 CAD=0.729260 EUR 1.00 CAD=0.642018 GBP Mid-market rates: 2011-04-04 11:43 UTC Source: XE.com Actually, for me it`s closer to $600.00 CAD at the moment. I`m not willing to build more credit card debt with swords until this is payed off. Is anyone here leveraged to the eyebrows to finance their sword collecting? Do you get that feeling like the bottom just dropped out of your stomach whenever the credit card bill comes? Do you "comfort spend" on swords? Do you buy swords to achieve a "high" that quickly fades, to be replaced by that gnawing guilt at having spent money you can`t afford to/ don`t have yet on stuff you don`t "really need"? Do you say to yourself "I gotta get this under control. No more until the ones I already have are payed off", only to renege the moment that next hot little number with curves and lines you`d give your left foot to be able to handle and hold appears on your computer monitor, and you find yourself trying to type your shipping information into the entry fields while all the while you`re shaking and sweating, and your bowels are about to empty themselves into your undergarments like a junkie who sees his next fix RIGHT THERE... Sound familiar? No?

Not me. If I don't have the money to buy something then I don't. I have no credit card debt, have never had credit card debt and plan to never have any. The only reasons I even use credit cards are to get the rewards and to consolidate bills so I only have to write one check instead of several.
I do get a rush from buying a sword, but I don't let it control me or cause me to mismanage my finances.

Same here. I buy new blade only when I can pay my credit card bill at the end of the month, never kept a credit card debt.

It'll come back to bite me in the ass when I go to buy a house, but I don't have a credit card. All sword purchases are made with money that I have and can spend on whatever. But I can totally relate to all the other characteristics, except the high doesn't fade... at all really. Each sword I've bought, I've cherished. We've had ups and downs of course, but I'm a very loyal and appreciative man

i have one credit card, and Ive never had debt on it. I pay the whole balance every month. Im now past the stage of "Omg I want every sword I see" I pretty much have all the swords I want and only plan on buying one more and that wont be until next year. Ive sold a bunch of guns to make the money back up from sword buying.

My wife and I have a personal rule... NO credit cards. Period. Not until either of us has a job that will make paying $300-400 *extra* in bills at the end of the month feasible. A credit card ultimately doesn't remove the obligation to pay up for something; it just makes it so you don't have to pay up NOW. I'd rather put cash on the barrelhead on anything. Yes, maybe we could use a credit card to build our credit, but honestly? We don't need it right now, and can't afford one.

well i frequently do tend to live on the wrong side of my overdraft, but thats got more to do with everyday living (and my compulsive movie buying fetish) than swords when im planning on a sword ive learnt not to click the buy it now button straight away,i try these days to take a step back ,read as many reviews of it as i can (sbg's invaluable for this) and then if i really do still want it ,ill start easing back on non essentials and banging spare cash into my paypal,i dont have a credit card otherwise id find myself magically transported to the nearest triumph bike dealer
btw chuck, that pc avatar's hiarious

^ This. That is what I do as well... I use my credit card to build my credit rating, which is over 800 these day, and to keep electronic track of everything and consolidate it into one payment, which I make every month. I hate having debt or paying interest charges... so I don't do it... except on the home mortgage. Blegh.

I don't have credit card debt but i've definitely bought a few swords due to a strong desire to get that "new sword high", though it would've been more sensible to refrain. I know your pain, S. Thomas.
