Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had some thoughts and opinions on this katana. It is currently available from the SBG shop here sbg-sword-store.sword-buyers-guide.com/product161.html. I read a few reviews on some other Hattori katanas and the only information that was given was mainly on looks, and fittings. I'm mainly wondering if this katana, or Hattori katatans in general, are durable and sharp enough to be a good quality cutter. Any general information on Hattori swords from Darksword Armory would also help. I have also looked some other swords around the same price and have seen that the Kaze is highly regarded and was wondering how the Hattori swords compare. Thanks!

I personally don't like them. The fake hamon is kinda tacky and not very nicely done. The "real" silk ito is a silk blend which is only considered real silk if you take some rather large liberties with the word real...and once you do that and somebody says that the fittings maybe suspect...well why take chances. If you want a nice cutter for that price range, I would recommend getting the hanwei raptor line. Also the kaze...cheness has really gone down hill since their haydays. Their fittings are no longer decent(they were never good)...and some of the ones that showed up has been quite frankly down right dangerous. Basically they use to be a top choice because nothing better for the price was available...however with the boom in sword options, they are a 3rd tier choice really. I would look at the munetoshi line or hanwei swords.

What about the Ronin katanas, how do they stack up against the hanwei raptor line?

Have not had a chance to handle a Ronin Katana yet... a couple forum members who I have a lot of respect for, Marc Ridgeway and TomK, they did reviews on Ronin Katana and they were impressed to say the least. The Raptors I have had... and I reviewed one myself... and they are very solid cutters for the money.
