I guess i'm pretty lucky in this aspect, my girlfriend (of 6 years that i live with lol just short of a wife) has never had a problem with my love for weapons, she doesn't really share the interest but has watched me cut on several occasions and I've even gotten her out there cutting with me a few times. When it comes to display i have my own space where i display things as well as a table in our room that i keep a shorter sword (hanwei kouga ninjato) on for safety reasons (and it looks good) she actually wants a Global Gear chikara katana to display with her things so i believe i can get away with displaying more around the place lol. I think part of it is that we got together and i had already had a large (mostly junk) collection under way due to the fact that I've been into weapons since i was 8 and we grew up very close so i guess shes just used to it.

my Queen is a student swordsperson... tho i cannot get her to do enough training to my satisfaction. she even shot a vid with me to demonstrate a sword vs staff. tho we went slow since the sword was sharp. she does way better with a blunt. when we first got together, i bought her a saber for valentines and my mom in law told me that was wrong... so i felt bad... until i got home early from work the next day and caught her practicing forms. she tells me that she is getting ready for the zombie apocalypse

My wife loves swords, she didnt before i met her but now she loves them. The only restriction on my sword budget is our household budget, as long as we dont need the money for something else :-D

Ehhh... how do I put it? She thinks I'm obsessed, basically... While that may or may not be true, she has more or less clamped down on any more spending until we have more money. She let me get the Hanwei sidesword for Christmas, and the H/T bastard was on sale for a great price... but aside from that? No more, buddy... *sigh* I understand the need to be responsible, don't get me wrong... doesn't mean I have to like it though

My girlfriend doesn't understand my fascination, but she's happy to file anything sword related away under "Neil's Guy Time" where I indulge in all manner of guy-ish/nerdy things... you know, as long as it doesn't negatively impact date weekends or the budget.

My wife is very tolerant of my sword collecting. I try to be responsible, I'm disabled and she's currently not working so the money just isn't there for sword purchases right now but our income should be increasing soon and she's already figuring the bills and what not so I'll have some money to set aside each month for sword collecting again. She doesn't "get" the whole swording thing, but it's something my son and I do together and she likes that. As for displaying them, I have them all up back here in the man cave, but I used to have a Kill Bill katana hanging in the living room and she was fine with that.

My GF is mostly ambivalent about my sword collection. Her 10-year-old son at first was a little interested in sparing, but he soon lost interest when he figured out how much work and physical exertion was involved. Now he's only interested in his BB gun and XBox. All my swords live in my office and mostly only see the light of day when they are not home.
It's not that she is opposed to my collecting, as long as the money is my "play money" and doesn't affect her. But she has put a significant dent in the amount of time I have for cutting or any other form of training.

You know, I'm really beginning the think I'm a very A-Typical woman..... I like the guyish/nerdy things. You know; swords, ren faires, garb making, guns, video games (yes even call of duty), historical/war movies, camo, hunting, Light Sabers, Jedi, Star Wars in general....
In fact...
I think this is positively awful... I would never constrict my husbands time in such a way, I trust that he'll make time for me. Of course I'm also much more likely to join him in his cutting/sparring activities.

You are definitely not the norm then. My girlfriend isn't the typical girly-girl either, she's got a big yellow Jeep, can handle a gun better than 95% of the guys out there sincer her parents owned a gun range for a long time, and she loves MMA/boxing. Heck, for one of our first dates the person who correctly picked the most wins at one of the UFCs got to pick where we would eat and what we would do. Guess what? She won, by a rather large margin. But she just doesn't get computer games or swords. She's more than happy to let me have time with both as long as I continue to make time for her though, so it's all good.

Mike: Still seeing the same friendly lady I met the last time I was out there I take it? Glad to hear that's going well... you know of course that if any of your swords get lonely, you can always send em to me and I'll keep em company. Especially the ones that were once mine. My wife and I enjoyed our visit with you very much... and often talk about how we have to make time to come back again, this time for a few days. It would be a lot better because this time I'll be in much better shape, won't have a jacked up arm, and the events that followed our visit last time will not cloud the memories this time. I look forward to having a functional right arm and doing some cutting this time... and Jill looks forward to doing some shooting. Actually, I look very much forward to both! Mrs. Silvermoon: I don't think Mike's lady is purposefully impeding his collecting/cutting time... I think Mike is just saying that having a relationship and a job and all the things that happen in life take time away from 'play time'... so he doesn't get to play with swords as much as he used to. Neil: My wife is much the same... we both enjoy the swords, MMA, poker, hiking and being outdoors... in fact, she called me once while on deployment in the middle east... a mere minute after Brock Lesner got his face bashed open by Cain Velasquez... and she was laughing on the phone. It was hilarious. I often have large MMA parties for Strikeforce, UFC or DREAM events and the guys can't belive my wife called from 8k miles away to laugh about Lesner.

Oh yeah, "Brock" is a four letter word among my circle of friends. The moment he turtled up and literally ran to the far corner of the octagon when Carwin hit him had me giggling like a school girl, when he actually lost to Velasquez had me laughing out loud. I've been a big fan of MMA ever since UFC 8 (David versus Goliath) and I have friends who train with some of the "heavies" of the sport and are involved in MMA in a professional capacities. I'm not much of an athlete though so I'm more than happy to watch from a distance.
My girlfriend got into MMA because her brother used to train and even had a few amateur fights (golden gloves and a local MMA show) and he got her hooked right around the time that PrideFC was in decline and TUF took off. So yeah, now we try to catch every other UFC or so on PPV. I've been trying to get at least somewhat interested in swords and medieval weapons, and I think I've found the gateway to bring her over to the dark side... Deadliest Warrior. I know the show is absolutely horrible as far as historical accuracy and plausibility and whatnot are concerned, however she's intensely competitive and so I was able to start betting her on who could better predict the outcomes and that lead to her asking questions about the weapons the combatants are using. I'm hoping that at some point she'll actually ask to handle one of the swords in my collection.

My ex used to laugh and shake her head at me. She didn't really understand why I actually got it, but since she was a big literature buff, she could see the appeal.
My friends worry if the amount of swords I have is inversely tied to my romantic life.

Mine sounds like a bad movie. She was freaked half way to leaving me right there and then when she first saw 'em...My small collection of stuff is never displayed and I only take them out for training or playtime.Mostly ugly/unpolished cheap or self-made/custom crap that looks like it came out of an Orc barrack (I love this type the most). She saw, took two swift steps back and then a long scared shitless stare at me.Two hours of thorough explaining later she said "Why not cars or soccer or something?I don't get it",to which I replied "Well, you wouldn't" and that's the last time she ever gave me beef about it.I mean this might sound cliche but she got shoes, clothes and an annoying little rat-dog that cost monthly as much as I spent for my entire "box of goodies".I'm so envious of guys with a relevant or at least "respectful to the hobby" girlfriend...I'm shallow when it comes to choice of women and I always pay for it,but then again I seriously doubt there's any "compatible" ones here.

I used to work at a pet store and we called them feeder dogs. (Like the feeder fish you can buy to feed to you real aquarium fish)
