Second time getting a "we'll check with our bank" from Aceros, after a second time sending all the transfer info I have. Hoping it's a positive effect this time.
No word from Filofiel, but the day is young still.

That blows, I'm hoping to see some good pics of the blades that you ordered.
Hopefully they will wing them across the pond double quick now that you've had to jump through hoops for them.

If I get them, there will be plenty of pictures. I also hope they can offer expedited shipping after all this trouble. Still no word from Aceros; I figure if I haven't heard from them by Friday, I will just place the order again, this time with PayPal, and pursue the transfer through my bank to determine what went wrong and try to get that money back. Sent another email just now to Filofiel, detailing my predicament with their shipping options, and re-sending the information they had requested before, in case my other email got lost somehow. It's been 17 days since my order to Aceros, and probably 15 or so since Filofiel. Good times, international commerce. One would think the Internet would have made this easier by now... Oh well. Whoops, only 7 with Filofiel. Time is dragging on a lot these days; so many things I'm just waiting to hear back on between Aceros, Filofiel, the local bike shop...

Promising news for a change! Filofiel came back to my second email, perhaps my address is triggering their spam filter, and have requested I either bank transfer (dear god, no) or PayPal them 106,00 Euro. I have sent another email directing them to the incoming PayPal payment from my other email address.
106 Euro is, right now, about $153.04. The knives were 82 Euro and the shipping 24. Shipping seems kind of high, but then again I'm used to that, especially if they're using EMS. I've just had a DVD come in that cost 1,500 Yen for shipping, and I've got another order of miscellaneous small things (and I mean small, a few rubber cell phone straps) from another Japan-based company to 1,684 Yen shipping. Before that was a decorative tissue box cover (*cough*...what?) that cost more to ship than the item cost to buy, so yeah...
Throwing packages across an ocean is expensive, especially when they're big or heavy. I imagine the weight for three knives of this size, around 20cm open, is a bit on the hefty side, so 24 Euro seems reasonable. Now, let's see how fast they get here!

Receipt of payment confirmed by Filofiel; the order will ship out today. Compared to Aceros, this seems too easy. Only problems I had with Filofiel were that my emails seemed to be turned away by their spam filter as often as allowed through...but that's not really a fault, I guess.
Depending on whether the scooter gets fixed this week, I'll be evaluating my finances to determine if I can afford to pay Aceros again, this time via PayPal, and later consult with my bank on the ultimate fate of my previous wire transfer. Never using that method again.

I hope that bank transfer will either be refunded, or send those knives your way. At least now you are almost certain a couple of knives will cross the Atlantic to go at your doorstep

I'm looking forward to getting the three, at least. I'll figure out what's going on with the other two.
In what I hope is unrelated news, I've received an email from what I presume to be a French bank informing me of some activity on a Visa card that I do not have. The email is in a language that is either French or possibly Portuguese, I have no idea. Pretty sure it's not Spanish, though. Looking into various accounts...
Edit: received notification from Filofiel that my order has been delivered to the local post office, and they have given me a tracking number. I must say, these guys have been great. I will likely but from them again.
Now to crack down the whole Aceros affair...

I'm thinking it's just spam, some sort of phishing game, most likely. My other email account frequently gets emails telling me about trouble in my Bank of America checking account...even though I've never used Bank of America, and they've never heard of me. I'll PM you the email for giggles, pretty sure it's French; it's from "Banque Populaire" and every email address and URL it references is a .fr. I'm just going to ignore it, but again, for giggles, I'll let you translate it for me.

Somehow, the wait is even more grueling once the stuff is in the mail. Spanish post thingy lists the current status as "In Transit," but not from or to where...so I just assume it's on its way from Spain to America somehow.
Amusingly, I'm also tracking two other shipments, one from Japan and one an eBay purchase. All three packages shipped within a day, and I'm amusing myself a bit too much watching to see which will get here first. The eBay item has a head start, being in the same continent, but it's "only" First-Class Mail. The other two are, well, I know one is and assume the other to be, EMS.
Of course, the other two shipments are unrelated to this thread; one being a collection of character-themed merchandise, the other a new box cutter for work since mine is basically falling apart.
Still waiting to hear from Aceros and the mechanic, but I should be able to cover a new order while I track down my transfer after paying for the scooter repairs... :x

At least you are certain that a few blades are headed your way.
As to that bank transfer to Aceros, I hope your money hasn't gone to Limbo, and that dealing with that company by Paypal will give better results.

I actually fondled some carraca yesterday while I was on the Spanish Canary Islands, quite nice knife. The knife shop had both cheap repros and authentic carracas, and a 20 inch at 119 euros. I'll buy one next time. I ended up buying a couple of Canarian knifes instead.

Likewise, Sébastien. Hopefully I'll get it all sorted out.
Ichiban, those are neat looking knives, any good info on them?

I saw similar knives on Aceros website. Just click on the 'Canarian' or Canary Islands link and you will see very similar knives. Plus, if my memory's right, they were very affordable.

Yup, Aceros has a repro, quite similar to the ones I bought. The differences between the repro and the originals are that the ones made by smiths on the Canaries often has a reinforced steel structure between blade and handle, and the handle is more elaborately decorated. The ones made on the Canary isles seems to be unavailable other than bought locally. I handled some handmade ones at a shop at the airport, but since I had already checked in my baggage I was unable to take them aboard the plane. It's a quite large bladed (6") knife that was used for everything including knife fights, and the broad blade makes an exellent slicer. I'm gonna use mine as a camping kitchen knife.

Interesting, I'll have a look into them. I was just browsing Aceros, convincing myself to carry through with a second order attempt, and thinking of adding a few more pieces that have caught my eye since, and now I'm really confused about a particular brand/maker. You may recall that, as part of my Filofiel order, I have purchased a "J.J. Martinez" Arabe, seen here: www.filofiel.com/tienda/product_ ... ts_id=4916 I just now saw on Aceros that the "Martinez Albainox" brand I attempted to buy has very similar knives listed, seen towards the bottom of this page: www.aceros-de-hispania.com/gb/in ... car=Search In there also are several other "Martinez Albainox" blades. The "Martinez" label is the only one I can seem to find this "Arabe" style under, but I'm not sure if there is a difference between J.J. and Albainox...since nobody seems to list both, yet there are very few similar products crossing over, save these "Arabe" style knives. I much prefer the aesthetics of the one I have ordered to those shown on this page, but I might be picking on of these up to probe the less-expensive alternatives to the same style. Also of interest are the Crossnar knives not too far below the Martinez Albainox knives on that Aceros link, and the Serranas (also an Albainox label) about halfway into that same page. Still not taken with the fatter blades, like those at the top of the page, but they're growing on me little by little. I guess I'll wait until Tuesday and see what my paycheck will look like come Friday...

This is excruciating; my Filofiel stuff has been hanging out at the origin post office "preparing for shipment" since Friday, which isn't that long in business terms, particularly international, but it's feeling like forever. Registered Mail is no EMS, granted, but one would think it'd be faster than it's always been for me. The bright side is that I should be able to afford another go with Aceros de Hispania, once I get around to having my bank figure out what went wrong with the original wire transfer.
