Does anyone know where I can find an authentic one? My friend has one and it looks awesome. I have googled it and have found ones, but they don't look like authentic reproductions. Thanks!

I've only done a quick Google search, myself, mainly to find out what knife you're asking about, but if I'm on the right track, it seems you're looking for a Spanish Navaja? Haven't stumbled over any antiques, but I found a company called Joker, based in Spain, that has quite a few very attractive pieces on offer, that at least look a lot like the photos of old knives I've managed to find. Found them here, though I'm sure you've seen them: www.worldknives.com/manufacturers/joker-15.htmlPersonally, I quite like this one: www.worldknives.com/products/jok ... -2460.html Same knife type?

That's it! Thanks for finding it. I had searched quite a bit and the ones I found looked nothing like that. Thanks again.

I know, I have been spending way to much on swords lately. It's addictive. Here is a link to one link my friend has. Blade is longer on this one, but it apparently is not available anymore. His clicks when it is opened like the originals did. interesting history this knife has. www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/carraca-gypsy-knifeThis is a replica of the ancient Carraca knife wielded by gypsies during late night camp raids. The villagers could hear the gypsies coming by the sound of the infamous clicking sounds created when the blades of their Carracas were opening. This classic knife is equipped with an exotic wooden handle with stainless steel spine and locking mechanism. The 9 1/2 inch mirror polished blade is razor sharp and opens with the same ratcheting mechanism as the original weapon. 20 1/2 inches overall you can compare size with the ball point pen laying next to it. Great for your collection as they will not be around for long.

These are really interesting knives, with fascinating history. I quite like them, but until your post had actually forgotten about them, and never really bothered to look for modern-made variants.
...Now I'm "this close" to tossing out a sizable chunk of change to have one...just to have one. :x

Been looking around trying to find more, and stumbled over this place: www.aceros-de-hispania.com/gb/in ... a_espanola Thought it might appeal. I wonder if this would get more attention if it were moved to the Knives and Daggers section...

Cool knives, guys! Sorry I don't have much to add to this thread, but I wanted to mention... when I clicked on the link below, it took me to some 'antivirus' site that tried to attack my computer. :? Uh-oh! Luckily my REAL antivirus software blocked it, but I thought it was worth warning you about. Oh, and if any of you do get one of these knives... may we have a review? Thanks, -Slayer

That's odd, Slayer. WorthPoint is certainly a legit site, and I don't get anything from it at all. Then again, I'm on a Mac...so my "security" is er...well, different. (not as hyper/paranoid?) I'm struggling against buying one of these things, myself. So far I'm leaning to the Joker brand, but that other site has some neat looking ones, too. I just want to make sure they sound right before I buy them, and it's hard to find a video of them. Some sites specifically mention the "carraca" ratchet system in descriptions and some even have graphic depictions...but I dunno. Seb', hey, you know... Edit: Found a video review of one of the Joker models, seems they don't do the full range ratchet, only the final lock. But I did figure out how Aceros de Hispania labelled those that do, and using their search engine, narrowed down to these: www.aceros-de-hispania.com/gb/in ... car=Search While I still prefer the aesthetics and form of the Joker models, I'm starting to lean more towards these fellows: www.aceros-de-hispania.com/marti ... inox-04013

Making a new post for the notification value. Just went through with a very tense order process on Aceros de Hispania; picked up one each from Joker and Martinez Albainox...I think? I'm hoping I ordered the 11cm versions of each of these: www.aceros-de-hispania.com/joker ... joker-nr00 www.aceros-de-hispania.com/marti ... inox-04013 ...but I had too many tabs open and the cart system is weird so I may have wound up with the 9cm from Joker. Unless that was the original tab, before I changed my mind on sizes... The shopping cart page cleared itself and my confirmation email thus far only says that I did, in fact, submit an order. Guess I'll find out Monday-ish! Either way, shipping was almost as much as both knives. Egad.

I'd like to hear your thoughts about those when you get them. I'm really interested in picking up one or two of these down the road, but there's so little info about them. After a good bit of digging I was able to find that the Exposito brand are some of the best, and while they do look really nice I'm not sure I'd be able to justify the price to myself. Here's a link to those in case anyone is interested. www.aceros-de-hispania.com/gb/in ... s-exposito

I looked at a few of those, but wasn't very fond of the profiles. The prices were also a bit much for the experiment I'm justifying this as, but if I like the ones I'm getting well enough, I'll start trying other makers, too, to get a better idea of what I'm really "looking for" in these things.
Hoping to hear back on my order soon...

I have that website on my list of favorite links but never took the plunge with them. If you can, I'd like to know if we can rely on them to get blades they have that are hard to come by on our side of the Atlantic.
Edit : Nice folders BTW !

Quick update for those interested:
Got my confirmation email this morning, requesting a bank transfer of 59,53 euro. Pretty sure I selected to pay by credit card, but maybe they prefer straight bank transfers for new customers or certain-value orders.
Either way, can't find that form on my bank's website, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow after work to swing by the branch office thingy.
Email goes on to say that once they receive the transfer, the order will be sent in 8 to 10 days. I'm hoping this is an indicator of arrival time rather than time it'll take to send out...but the automatic translation is pretty broken and I had to fill in a lot of gaps as it is to get that much.
Guess I'll find out. So far, my only gripe is the transfer vs credit card. I much prefer the latter, which I'm sure I picked, but hopefully my bank won't charge a lot for the transfer, the last one cost me $50. :x

I lost track of this thread for a bit, didn't realize it got moved. Please let me know what you think of them and the companies that you ordered them from. I need to get my orders going soon too.

Ugh, that order procedure seems so complicated and messed up ... Good luck man, I hope at the end of this you'll get your knives.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled by any simplicity or ease here, but I'm chalking it up to thorough and secure for now...
Wish the ol' scooter was out of the shop so I could just cruise over to the bank today and be done, but it's just too far for a bicycle trip. Luckily the bank is right next to where I work, so I'll be out that way, anyway, tomorrow. Just hate waiting...

Been doing some more digging to kill the time, it's not passing quickly enough, but I've only managed to find one or two other places selling this type of knife. They're all based in Spain, and the sites are in Spanish. Aceros (abbreviating aceros de hispania) is the only one with an english language option, so I'm kind of stuck. Whoops, I take that back; one of the pages I was going to link as having some very nice pieces had a very small, oddly-placed language toggle in the banner. Don't know how I missed it, it's actually about the same place as Aceros'. Anyway, here's some of their selection...if I did this right, they should be showing most expensive models first. www.pastorcuchilleria.com/ecomer ... =en&id=118 I wonder what ordering from these folks would be like... Guess I'll try them next!

Woo, triple post! Man, this just doesn't want to be easy. I went to the bank after work today to file for the wire transfer, only to find out that my bank is unable to send money in foreign currencies, and does not have access to current exchange rates. I had to use my phone to Google current USD -> Euro rates and guesstimate in hope of a relatively stable next-few-days. I added a dollar or so extra, just in case. Cost me $50. Fifty [obscenity deleted] dollars. FIFTY. Anyway, bank couldn't give me a receipt so I'm stuck in limbo, but I sent an email as a reply to the address the transfer request came from informing them that I submitted for the transfer and explaining the whole affair. I just hope somebody there knows enough English to understand it all...but when your website makes use of Google Translation services... Well, now to sit and wait. Again. Hoping the worst case is the wire is rejected and they ask for credit card info, instead...or just cancel the order and let me start over and make sure I choose to pay by credit card this time. :x
