On March 6th there was a fire at Hanwei's factory in Dalian. Luckily no people were hurt in the fire but there was significant damage to their facilities and inventory on hand at the factory. Hanwei plans to resume production asap but currently they are working to make a full assessment of damages and repairs.
This means the possibility of one or both of two things:
1. The price of Hanwei products could go up.
2. Hanwei products could become scarce as production has stopped till they can repair/replace damaged machinery and tools as well as the building to resume production.
In any case - if you are a Hanwei fan like I am and are considering purchasing Hanwei products - do so NOW!
Just some friendly inside advice here.

Prices already went up on many Hanwei items at KoA I noticed a few days ago...

It has already begun... Ah well if you guys can grab up your Hanwei products now if you were planning on it. The prices could continue to go up as supplies drop.

Yeah, I have to say I'm kinda glad that I don't plan to get a Hanwei as my next sword. Hopefully prices don't go up *too* much, but for now I think the best deal on Hanweis are going to be found in the classifieds here...

While prices might go up now, they'll return to what they were eventually. I don't imagine that they'd increase their prices any higher, but I doubt we'll be getting another H/T Sale next month.

Does Hanwei have more than one factory, or is the factory in Dalian the only one? Also what products did Hanwei make in the Dalian factory?

Just the Dalian facility I believe...they're big but not *that* big. Anyway yeah, it looks like prices are spiking...I had the same thoughts and grabbed a main gauche and stiletto I've had my eye on awhile and they were both about $5 more than I remembered seeing them. KOA sat on the order for about 24 hours--I bet they're figuring out how to handle this as well.

I'm fairly sure Dalian is where they make most of their Western blades. I *could* be wrong about that, but both my side sword and H/T came from there...

Hhmmmm, I was giving honest consideration to the new Saxon, but wife wants a new couch (cant blame her holes in current one), so thats kinda sucky. Oh well its not forever.
