Hello everyone! My name is Hiroshi, I usually reside on the Japanese forums but I've journeyed many miles and 3 mouse clicks to come to this foreign land. I have to tell you, first off, I know nothing of chinese swords. Onto my question, My brother is interested in chinese swords and has asked me to find him a "bagua dao" and sent me the picture bellow. I have no idea id this is a real sword but if it is, I'm looking for one that can be used for light-medium cutting, so no wushu blades. Thanks abunch guys!

I've heard of these and seen one before I think... its basically a massive two handed 'GreatSword' like Dao... I don't know anything about where you would get one... the one I saw was a custom, I believe. We have several members here who are focused on CMA and I'm sure one of them will chime in.

Baguadao are used in Bagau Zhang (obviously) as strength training tools, equivalent to the suburito in Japanese sword arts, so there aren't many models available that aren't wushu steel. However, as Paul pointed out in a video years ago, you can cut with a wushu steel blade: But more to the point, the only baguadao that's non-wushu steel that I know of is the long discontinued Cold Steel model:

Or you could contact Lancelot Chan and/or Tinker Pearce. Chan has a large blade that I believe Tinker made for him, so I imagine either of them would be happy to answer your questions.

yeah, well currently there are very few production daos in the market. Which is a shame cuz I perfer the dao more than any other weapon. If your bro is into giant choppers, there are a plenty of functional dadao swords or you can do what I'm doing...painfully wait until one shows up in the production market...
