Hey Folks, here's a couple of original LOTR designs I thought some might be interested in. These are available for commission, from myself (FableBlades) only of course. Glamdring Theres a computer mock up of how I'd do my Original Glamdring if I were to do it over. Tolkien described Glamdring as being white and gold. I'd like to use a holly grip (white wood) with pyro'd runes around it, and brass guard and pommel, with green gems - I think the green and gold would suit the elvish origins nicely. My Narsil hilt - This was to be sculpted and cast by Jeffrey Robinson but the order fell over. Still I'd love to see it done someday. Incorporates a Urnes come Art Neveau White Tree of gondor and the Star symbol. My Ringwraith design. These are being made as you read this. Here are some progress pics below. Before becoming Wretched... And while we're at it I might as well put up my Longclaw design .... Not the greatest sketch of the wolf, but Jeffrey would sort that out

Yay! I was hoping you'd eventually post these. I may commission a Narsil from you one day just to use that new design. And I'm loving the Longclaw design, though I'd personally prefer the wolf's head oriented to one side like on your Rhindon; kinda gives the target the feeling the eyes are following it...

Definitely nice designs all of these. I'm digging the hammered texture on your Ringwraith swords. Do you happen to have casting facilities for your pommels and hilts, other than Jeffrey Robinson? Just wondering because those pommels and guard don't look like his work...
I'm wondering how you would picture a Sting, by the way, or a Morgul dagger? In any case, I look forward to seeing more of your designs!

Ooo, lovin' the whole design of those ringwraith swords! Kind of shame that they wanted them etched since they looked so nice in a bright finish, but I suppose it goes along with the theme. Dang, looks like a lot of work to grind out those guards, they turned out fantastic though. FYI, I only cast bronze and occasionally aluminum at this time. Any time Brendan shows any work that has elements cast or sculpted by me, he always gives me credit. So if you see something of his that doesn't specifically reference me, its all Brendans

me really badly want narsil pommel and guard, maybe not even on a sword they are beautiful enough on their own. love the way you picked up the (elven) art nouveau style on them.
what was i thinking, of course i want a sword with that hilt futniture

I have to agree with Vincent that I would like to see the wolf head oriented so the muzzle would line up with the blade edge when held.

What do you think of the new Hobbit film's interpretation of Orcrist Brendan? I know it's not really the best angle, and we probably won't see much more of it before it hits the big screen, but I've been wondering what you thought of it. My mind isn't made up yet. It definitely looks very elven, but like someone else mentioned in another thread, I imagine First Age relics looking pretty different from their Third Age counterparts. I like to think the curved elven blades we see in the LotR movies are a bit newer, and the elves of old used more traditional style weapons. Actually, one of John Howe's unused designs for Narsil is very close to how I pictured the blade in my head, and is also one of my favorite sword designs. It's the one on the bottom, although I like them both a lot: Narsil-23-portfolio by Everguard, on Flickr A bit more on topic, your version of Orcrist still impresses me. It looks a bit more "Dwarf-ish" with the strong geometry in the hilt pieces. Still one of the most unique designs I've seen to date.

Hey Everguard I wasn't able to see the pic - said I needed to be logged onto some site to view it. Are you able to please repost it hosted? I haven't seen Howe's unused Narsil designs and am very interested to check them out. I did see the pic of Thorin with his sword edge on. It's nice. Though I am a bit disapointed with how strongly it seems to draw from Sting. I was hoping to see something original and as powerful as their Glamdring. I was also disappointed with the lack of belt tucked beards on the Dwarfes. They're not the same dwarves from my dreams. Regarding my Orcrist I did want something that looked destined for the hand of a Dwarf Lord. Tkae it with a pinch of salt. It's not really meant to look Elvish. I like all the pretty swords though. I'm making a new Elvish sword design now, updated from my original Glamdring, you can see it on my site here: www.fableblades.com/Unmade.html

Updated my comment with Flickr hosting. Just some neat background information about the images: John Howe said he designed these with the idea that this was a relic from the First Age, and so it was meant to look a bit different. The top design was based off something he saw in a German museum, and the bottom was getting back to a more classical style. The pommel was apparently typical of Numenorian swords.
You'll notice both designs have a peculiar half-moon shape missing near the hilt. He said he imagined that when the blade cut the ring from Sauron's hand, the immense heat and power from destroying him would have melted the steel. He imagined Peter Lyon taking an arc-welder to the Shards of Narsil to create this effect. He was sad it didn't make it into the final design.

Thanks for posting those pics and that information. That was a great idea about the plasmatic explosion derived from the death of the great Sauron.
