Im surprised at the tang.... it seems awful scrawny for a two-hander. If you do any heavy cutting with it tell us how it turns out.
Even with RC of 53, im still surprised.

Tang really isn't that scrawny. We're all too used to monsters for tangs instead of looking at actual examples. I'd say it seems to be adequate, however, we can't forget that THICKNESS is just as important as width.

They're not "that" thick. Some are larger than others, just like historical swords, as it varies in sword typology. I admit, this tang appears to be on the smaller side in width, but it still falls well within the range of theoretical historical accuracy. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by modern standards. Clarification, please?

I want to add that this issue with this very sword has been brought up, and Eyal of DSA assures us of good results. If there is a problem, Eyal and Jason both back the product up and will either replace it, or give you a different sword.

hey ramm, i cant pick between a sword, which one should i choose:
Gen. 2 Falcata or DSA Two Handed Gothic
I like them both 50/50
I want cutting power which is why i want the Falcata, but I also want to add a Medieval sword to my collection because all I have are Katanas and Kukris and I think the Gothic is B-E-A-UUUTIFULL as hell

Unless you want to pay Arms of Valour $50 to sharpen the DSA Gothic for you, I'd say go with the Falcata. Gen2's come sharp, very sharp....

Wow I feel honored I feel honored My personal opinion is to lean towards the culture you prefer more - Ancient greek or late middle ages HRE (Holy Roman Empire). For me, this would go undoubtedly towards the DS Gothic. In my mind, the gothic is a very beautiful rendition of a very beautiful sword type. While it isn't totally accurate, it is suprisngly historical, meaning that it will maintain pretty good effectiveness just like its medieval counterpart. Also, the DS is just one beautiful BAMF and can be used to replicate techniques from longsword manuals - we don't have these for ancient greece. And finally, the weight is, remarkably, historically plausible - 3.5 lbs Personally I don't care much for the falcata, sure it will be a good cutter, but then that has more to do with the blade type than it being gen2. The only advantages I see with the falcata over any oter falcata offered at this price range is sturdiness, but then again, the DS is nigh unbreakable as well. Plus, but swords should cut pretty darn well if the DS is sharpened up. Personal opinion take it for what it's worth

That's my point. When sharpened up
The gothic is a wonderful example of a sword. It's both beautiful and historic. If it came sharpened, I'd buy it in an instant.
But it doesn't, and I don't fancy paying $50 to have it done, and I don't fancy doing the deed myself, (though I am assembling the tools, and practising.)
Also, Arms of Valour is the only place that offers a sharpening service, and since I live in Canada anyways, ordering from them is kindof redundant.
I love the Gothic. Buy it, it's a wonderful sword. But remember the sharpening.
P.S. I may still buy the Gothic. It calls to me...

Just my opinion but I believe it would take much more than an accusharp type device to sharpen the DS. Brian (matrix) has his process laid out here; www.swordsofvalor.com/swordsharpening.htmlIf it was me and I had my mind set on a DS. I'd pay them to do it. Looks like a lot of work to me. LOL The DS not coming sharp is the main one of two reasons I haven't bought one yet. Call me picky but I think a sword should come sharp or at least Hanwei sharp.
