That is beautiful work Chuck !!!! Congratulations. I don´t think it falls under the ¨Frankensword¨ category. It is more akin to the fine work of Christian Fletcher. Again....Beautiful !!

Cool beans on the pommels... that's okay about making more, there's always John Greybeard's offer. That reminds me, I need to start working on more designs... I wonder if I could get away with bumping the thread...

That is quite flattering and much appreciated.
Compared to Christian though, I am a pale shadow of his shadow, a mere part swapper. If I had made the guard, maybe.
Anyways, glad that you enjoyed.

How about that sidesword guard on a H/T fullered bastard... the current sale at KoA is making me salivate. Mmmm... so many H/T sales right now...

you know you can buy the bare blade for something silly like $80 normally right?
I think this is a really good concept. the narrow XVIIIb blade fits the hilt better I think. at least it doesn't stretch things as far as a big old type XII. even though the XIIs looked sweet you have to admit they were really anachronistic.

If I got a regular blade with scabbard and hilt though, you get a scabbard as well. Now I know the Hanwei scabbards are kind of lousy, but I like to have that extra little safety factor that even the fiberglass H/T scabbards give. I agree that the thinner blade will probably look better; what I'm concerned with is that the size of the sidesword guard may be a little too disproportionate. It works with the sidesword blade and the EMSHS though, so I'm probably overthinking it and should relax...

I'm going to try another one on a H/T unfullered bastard for more of a town guard look only using a different guard than the Hanwei Sidesword, maybe a Darkwood. Or, there is always the XIX route- www.myarmoury.com/feature_spotxix.html I would have Christian do that though, as I would want it to be the pinnacle of coolness.

Quick update. "Nothing's happening!" I don't have a dedicated shop, I work out on the back patio, which, up until lately, has been entirely pleasant. It's been a week since we've seen 32 degrees, though, and somehow I've got the impression that shivering while grinding on a sword, that's just a bad idea. So progress is on hold pending better weather.
I will get it done, though!
Chuck, I think you ought to go ahead and take a stab (so to speak) at a XIX yourself. From what I've seen so far, you've got the eye, the time, the tools, and the skill to build a nice semi-custom. Why not do a home-built initially, and then have Christian do a more polished incarnation? I could certainly justify having two similar custom swords, one munitions grade and one all purty.
Any further information on what type of guard you'd like to use on the XIX? The myArmoury piece showed a variety of furniture.

I kind of like the XIX.5 on the MA page. Towards the top of the page where they show the six hilts in a row I like the 2nd 4th and 5th ones. If I get the time to play with the TIG welder and some round stock, I will try to craft something up and submit it for heckles or praise. I've got an extra cruciform guard laying around, so maybe some experimentation is in order It's a bummer that you can't get out to do any work on your project, I'm anxious to see what you come up with.

Once I get to know her a bit, I may very well want to leave her just the way she is. If such is the case, I believe that TTA will have another commission for an XIX so that I have my project, and a true Atrim model. I know that you just hate to hear that kind of talk Tom.
