These are in no particular order
1) Windlass Ulfberth 2) Valiant Armory Practical Arming Sword 3) H/T Norman 4) H/t EMSHS 5) H/T Viking 6)Valiant Armory Practical Falchion (I know it has not come out yet but if should soon) 7)Generation 2 Henry V 8) Windlass Munich 9) Del Tin 13th Century Falchion 10) Oakeshott Type XVIII Sword
There are so many more (in fact there is about a 3 page list on my computer of weaponry that I want) however these are my favorite swords at the moment.

I'd sell them and buy 4 or more pieces under $1000 By the time I picked up 10 sub-400 pieces, I'd have several redundancies because my interests are fairly narrow (believe me, I've been there) and with that amount of money to spend I'd rather get the "bang for my buck" in quality, not quantity. With a $4000 budget I could get: An Atrim 1557 with Castillion grip upgrade--$475 An Atrim/CF Chimera line Austrian Great Sword--$595 An Atrim/CF Chimera line Venetian Bastard Sword--$595 An Ollin Sword Designs Last Falchion C--$900 An Albion Crecy--$800 A Valiant Armoury (new) Castille--$384 A Valiant Armoury Practical Arming sword (303s) in Brown--$230 And then still have $20 to spare. That's seven swords, and I'd much rather have that then ten sub-400s. Heck, I could even sell some of those and get me a custom Odinblade or Fableblade (probably the Atrims and Albion, since I already own most of 'em ). But maybe that's cheating, I dunno. Feel free to replace my list with Valiant Armoury's full line-up in that case, or some list of sub-400 katanas or something.

Hmmm, also in no particular order:
1, HT Bastard Sword 2, HT Viking Sword 3, HT Norman Sword 3, A&A Danish War Axe 4, Valiant Kriegsschwert 5, Valiant Custom Longsword 6, DSA Arms Black Prince 7, Generation 2/Legacy Arms Irish Hand & Half 8, Kris Cutlery Roman Gladius 9, Windlass Steelcrafts 16th Century German Mace 10, Windlass Steelcrafts Persian Scimitar
With shipping cost I think that the Kriegsschwert is pushing the $400 coast limit. But I agree with Lunaman, if I could recoup the $4000 by way of selling and having a large lump sum I'd rather do so and splurge on some high end stuff.

You've also got two #3's there, Neil--that's probably pushing it more than the Krieg.

Oops, my mistake. That's what happens when you type, get interrupted by a phone call, edit something and then change your mind and get interruped again while you're editing. *sigh* OK, in that case, remove the WSC 16th Century Mace.

even better! oh wait, I guess I should give up at least one sword and switch it out for my Cris Anderson custom EDC, love that little guy even though it bites me almost every time I use it, lol (the knife, not Cris) gonna send him off to obedience school I think (again, the knife not Cris :? )

I could get most of the swords on my list for that amount (hell, I could get all the short swords that are under 100$), but like Luna, I'd rather get the bang for my buck, so I'll just group it together like he did in a 4000$ budget and pick out the ones I want most. In no particular order, they are:
1. Valiant Armory Custom Arming Sword - Royal Blue (I prefer the slimmer guard and blue's my favorite color) 2. Windlass Steelcrafts Russian Kindjal 3. Windlass Steelcrafts D-guard Bowie 4. Valiant Armory Kriegschwert 5. Traditional Filipino Weapons Straight Kris 6. Jin Shi Golden Flower Jian 7. Lunaman's Swan Neck by Fable Blades 8. My own design, Ithin
I don't know the cost of the last two since they'd be one offs, but since the rest come out to about 1275$, I think I'm in the safe zone with 2725$ left over. It's also proof that Luna's got some great designs, since I chose his Swan Neck over Ithin's brother that I also really want made.

I suggested a $400 limit a piece, because if we all had $4000, we usually get lists of custom swords.

mmmm, ten swords, eh? I'd just buy the 9 of the most cheapest SLO known to manking and concentrate the remaining 3800-3900 on having this baby polished and mounted: legacyswords.com/fs_gen_sword16.htm  but if you insist that I have to buy 10 swords that are similar priced, Than I would go with bamboo mats and lion-dog. maybe, a bare blade from huawei - big and beefy ken, or maybe omi yari

Like Luna... I don't really get excited for most lower costs swords anymore... I've handled just about everything under the sun at this point and my tastes have grown... ...however... if it HAD to be 10 swords each under 400... 1. Cold Steel Jade Lion Gim 2. Kris Cutlery folded Steel Dao 3. Kris Cutlery Folded Steel Jian 4. Jin Shi Han Jian 5. A&A German Dagger 6. A&A High Gothic Mace 7. A&A Danish War Axe 8. Dynasty Forge Flower Saber 9. Del Tin 4th Century Celtic Sword 10. Hanwei Bamboo Mat Katana

Fair enough. I just listed the swords on my list I wanted the most. However, if they absolutely have to be under 400$ each, then this is my list:
1. Benchmade Harley Davidson LFK 2. Cold Steel 1917 Saber 3. Hanwei Shaolin Jie Dao 4. Hanwei Tactical Katana 5. Jin Shi Golden Flower Jian 6. Munetoshi Custom Lion Dog Wakizashi (It's a custom, but it's priced at 318$, so it qualifies) 7. Traditional Filipino Weapons Straight Kris 8. Valiant Armory Custom Arming Sword - Royal Blue 9. Valiant Armory Kriegschwert 10. Windlass Steelcrafts Wheel of Time: Heron Mark Sword (I can't include the Warder from VA that I'd much prefer, since even at it's cheapest, it's 415$)

That's an awesome sale, even if I can't afford it. Thanks for pointing it out, Sean.

Yeh... its tempting me. Even tho I tend towards higher end swords now... and prefer peened over hex nut... I've always been interested in the Warder, and its one of few production swords I have not handled yet. You can pick the colors... I'm so tempted.

it depends of the price but if the price is under 400$ i would go for: 1- a chidori jumonji yari blade in shirasaya from huawei 2- a custom mounted huawei blade (mounted by frank the bunny) 3- a hanwei ppk 4- a custom mounted huawei wakizashi 5- a hanwei pp wakizashi 6- a custom naginata blade from huawei 7- a rapier and main gauche set from DSA 8- a waxwood 6 feet long staff 9- a dao maybe from kris cutlery 10- and a jian from kris cutlery that's about it but i know it will take a long time to have these hahahaha on second thought though the chidori jumonji yari would be nice to have as a next project... maybe when i have money to spend on this

I have more of a thing towards short swords, so most of the swords on my list (with the notable exception of TFWs) are under 100$. Granted, after handling them, I may decide I don't like them and sell them so I can work towards something more expensive, but it's just ironic that 3 of the swords on my list that I want most (not customs) are, by my definition, longswords: Kriegschwert, Warder, and the Albion Knecht. The Warder is especially tempting at the moment since I could get it in blue.
