Hi all Not sure if I'm posting in the right category ,but I came accross it in the KOA ancient section . Has anyone handled the Hanwei Charlemagne Saber ? Iv looked at it more and more of late and I'm considering picking one up as it would be something different to add to my collection .

It's a beautiful sword. I almost bought one a little while ago, but put the money toward a different project instead. Still might pick one up at some point.

Same here. Though it's a little flashy, it looks like a really interesting saber.

Hate to break it to you buuuut... the worst part about international orders is the chance that they might have damaged the shipment. Of course, that's a risk with domestic orders as well.

Yeah it is always a risk ,but hence I prefer to use FEDEX or UPS rather than USPS . Iv had a couple of orders come via USPS in the past that has been damaged ,luckely minor stuff which I could resolve .My Saber arrived in great condition , love it as it brings something really different to my collection . Ill try posting some pics with it tomorrow . Im going to do a little light cutting with it today (weather permitting) and then Ill take some pics of her once iv given her a good clean .

Well did some light cutting with it yesterday and wow what a fun sword ,really handles much better than I thought it would . I was a little sceptical regarding the strange shape of the handle ,but it actually turns out to be rather comfortable . As for the rest of the sword , well its really well made , with great fittings , very detailed . The pictures from Hanwei and on most sites do not do it justice at all . I was a little worried that all the gold would be over the top ,but its been dulled so its not all super shiny ,looks really good . Ill try get some pics up today in the sunlight ,provided the rain stops .Otherwise Ill post a couple of quick indoor shots until I can get some better ones when the weather clears .

A pretty sword all together.
The way that guard is pinned together there makes it look cheap, though, as does the gap between the grip and the guard. Hanwei could really have done a better job of casting that fitting. The rest of it overall, though, does look very nice, especially the slightly worn look on the engraving. Overall, really, that guard is my only quibble with the whole thing...

The casting could be sharper, but it's indeed a great looking sword, no two ways about it. Do you have a picture of the fuller transition/termination near the middle of the blade? @elheru Aran: I'm not a fan of the pinned guard construction either, but I hardly think it makes it look cheap--- since the original sword is constructed the same way:

*squint* It's kind of hard to tell on your picture, to be honest... It's a personal preference, I think if they'd cast it in a solid piece it'd look better, is all.
I've no doubt it's a nice cutter, it does look like a nice light blade. Any tachikaze when you swing it around? (whistling, basically, from air passing over the fullers, if you're not familiar with the term)

I'm not saying it's clear in the picture, I'm just saying that that is the construction on the actual antique. I couldn't find a clearer picture while posting, but I assure you that's the case.

So, is it just me, or is the blade on this repro a lot shorter then on the original sword?
