Well, I've been on the fence about buying new swords lately. I have a few euros that I haven't pulled out in a month, and I'm not looking to arm a small country. Nonetheless, I bought the Hanwei Dadao: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... tary+Dadao I had wanted my first to be a jian, but after seeing the dadao pop up everywhere and it getting such good reviews, AND at only 80 bucks, I had decided that I couldn't put it off any longer. I purchased it from Kult of Athena, so it should be here in 2 days or so... unless I run into the same problem I did last time I tried to order from them and the item I want gets sold out over the weekend. If anyone has had any issues, or has heard of ANY shortcomings of this blade, by all means, tell me. I'll take some good pics when it arrives and think of a good name in the mean time.  |

I had Hanwei's other DaDao... and I think this new one is a lot better looking.
However, if it has anything in common with their other one (and indeed, all of their non-katana swords) the main issue I would expect would be a sub-par edge. Let me know how sharp it is when you get it neh? I'm interested in this one myself, a lot.

i like my dadao, tho it is a little flashy for a dadao. if i read the specs correctly, they are the same. i am with sean, how is the edge. mine was good and sharp right out of the box. even chopped the box with it. holds a good edge also after all the abuse i gave it in my testing vid.

I was looking at the sheath construction and couldn't find any points at which to attach a belt or harness to. Is there something I'm missing?

I had heard they were not issued with scabbards in WW2 - I'm guessing that is misinformation?

OH EM GEE!
So the Dadao just arrived and I am simply blown away. I don't want to give to much away from when I do the review, but I can not believe that I bought this piece for 80 bucks. I'm off to snap some pictures now and do a quick cutting vid for the official review.
