Well, that review seals it. I'm buying one of these. I don't suppose there's any way I can reserve one through the SBG Sword Store now? Or will I have to wait ( )? I'm curious to see what the price difference will be, and since you mentioned the low quantity produced currently, I wonder what the wait will be, or if they'll manage to increase production, and if so what this will do to price and quality... Guess we'll find out.

Ok! I've been working away behind the scenes like a maniac - and the first four SBG selection DSA swords have just been added and are available to buy! Check 'em out in the new Darksword Section of the SBG Store hereAll of the swords listed there are available and good to go with practically zero waiting time, though that may change if they become too popular of course! The price difference is - I absorb either the entire or the vast majority of the shipping (USA) and/or shipping + 6% sales tax for Canadians. In the US, the average shipping cost to send from DSA is around $37 to $43, so that is pretty significant. And they arrive quick too - almost feels that they are within the US.. And I have to admit - I can't stop playing with that sword! More reviews coming, their Viking from the Oslo Museum is with me right now and I should have it reviewed by the end of the month. Cheers all, - Paul EDITED TO ADD: Forgot to mention that I took out the bit about the shaping of the tip in the review. Turns out Eyal and the boys did this because they were worried about Aussie import laws, but there is really only one state that is sword hating (those %#$*^&) So they don't normally come with a tip like that. The next one will be normal though.

Hi everyone,
We would like to thank all of you for your continued support. It is always a pleasure to chat with people who share the same passion.
To answer some of the Q's we have received from various SBG members, yes, the sword used in the torture test is made with our standard blade. We forge all our swords with 1060 High Carbon Steel and Temper all our blades to a Rockwell of 53. We can use other alloys upon request, but 1060 is a high end alloy which is generally more resistant than Krupp or spring steel or any other alloy used to make swords under the 900$ mark, not to say that CK 55 Krupp isn’t good. It is...but in terms of resistance, if properly heat treated, 1060 generally will be more resistant, will oxidize less and take a better edge.
If you any of you have any questions, feel free to email us directly or place a post on the SBG forum and link us your question in an email. We will be more than happy to reply to any of your questions.
Oh, we have just completed a new model (Saxon Sword). We will post a few preliminary photographs once we figure out how to post pictures on the forum.
Again, we thank you for your continued support.
DSA Staff,

Wow and I thought I was ambitious testing a sword You've definitely sold people on buying them. I just hope they make a gladius in the future. Any possibilities on adding the Spatha to the SBG lineup?

Hey Darksword and welcome to sbg You've certainly made me take another look at these, Paul. Darksword, there is one thing that stops me from purchasing one of your swords: I'm concerned about the handling of them. I'm spoiled when it comes to handling comparisons (I can judge swords compared to my albion ) and I just can't help but think that these swords are clumsy when compared to their historical counterparts. I've heard numerous people say thing about your swords in the past. Shootermike owns the boromir and was not impressed by the handling - and he owns several albions, atrims, and other fine swords. You've got me sold on the look and the durability. I just want to know if it will handle well enough for me to purchase it. I really value historical accuracy in all aspects. Thanks for your help, and many warm welcomes to SBG.

Paul I'd like to address a bit on your review: The sword appears as good an example as any of a type XII not XIV. Unless I'm mistaken it doesn't flair at the base, and the taper seems pretty even (maybe a tad gradual - but you've got the sword, you can see better than me, so correct me if I'm wrong). Secondly, the type XIV really wasn't really meant to combat plate armour at all. It was the last design meant for the purpose of fighting against maille armoured opponents. It fell out of style after 1350 or so - and at this time, plate armour really wasn't anything spectacular. I have to somewhat disagree. After looking through many historical examples, I'd say this tang was pretty spot on in terms of width. It's not a really beefy monster, but nor can it be called "thin." It seems perfect to me... Ok, done

Oops, one more thing, mate. Is there any way I could humbly request you to get a youtube video up in the review with dry handling? I personally feel that one of the best vid's you've posted was that one in the windlass european sword review where you simply waved it around to give the audience a good feel of how the sword tracked into the cut. I'd really like to see this with this particular sword since handling is one of my concers. I am really serious about wanting this swrd....but I'm put off a little by some of the poor marks I've heard a long while ago . Admittedly, I've repeated many ;D

Cool Rammers, I'll make a few changes to the review based on your observations. And yup, can definitely add a dry handling vid to show you how it handles. I'll prepare the script "This is the - uh - Darksword Armoury Knightly sword, just to give Rammstein an idea of how well it handles.." But seriously, will do.

Centurion: Yup, will be adding more soon. The Spatha will be one of them, as well as more of the two handers.

That was cool as usual Paul, good work! (smacking a sharp piece of metal into other metal that is ) Though Paul, I notice your chopping stand isn't anchored to the floor. I think you should put some tent stakes or sand bags at the base of it so 100% or so of your power will be focused on a /solid/ target.

Good point Hobomurai - I'll look into that for the next ones. Rammers: I've videod some dry handling of the sword. It's been added to the review. My mistake on the plate armour - I got my type XIV's mixed up with the XVI's (reasonably easy to do). Looking at it in the hand though, I am actually still convinced it is a Type XIV. They don't need to have a flared base - and the profile is actually a lot like the XIV.4 and XIV.6 in 'Records'. Anyway, it does handle well for such a tough sword - and while it may not be an Albion - a crowbar it ain't.

XVI could be right. I can't really tell the x-section. Basically, if it's lenticular it's probably a type XII, but if it isn't, it could be a type XVI. I'm more than happy to call it either (I just like XIIs more ). However, I disagree with it being a type XIV. Take a look at these myarmoury links, they give good examples of each: www.myarmoury.com/feature_spotxii.htmlwww.myarmoury.com/feature_spotxiv.htmlwww.myarmoury.com/feature_spotxvi.htmlPaul, thanks very much for the handling vid. I personally feel this is the most informative vid you've done to date. Karma for answering my request!

I'm in love with the Norman, myself. Can't wait to hear everybody's opinions. I've just handed myself some healthy debt, so a new sword will be far, far off for me, but at least I can enjoy them all vicariously through you guys.

WOW! I love the Squire and the Norman! I am saving up for Valiant Armory's Christian Fletcher/ATrim swords so I must be vigilant! Literally can't afford to lower my guard! lol
