You guys all know how I love to thrash a sword for the sake of 'sword science'. (well, that is my darn excuse and I am sticking to it!). Well, I am busy writing the review now as we speak. But I thought I would share a little taster... Other tests videoed included the steel pole, a galvanized bucket, concrete block, and the usual stuff - and this beast just needs a bit of a polish... Handling isn't bad either - very similar stats to Albions Type XIVs... HRC of 53 (and after these tests, there ain't much doubt about it). Not perfect swords, but this one is certainly worth the $$$. Enjoy (here's the concrete test for good measure).

YAY!!! I loved watching the drum attack! Karma for entertaining me. Do it again! Do it again!
I use a drum for my thrusting test as you may know. It's scarey cos if the sword bends with all your strength behind it its gonna be catastrophic. Keep it coming. Break that sucker for me. I don't want you to stop til its lifeless, Paul. Maybe I'll hold that Karma till I see that sword in a coffin. ;D

Wow. Hitting that barrel sounded so ominus, like a death knell for the sword. Good thing it wasn't. Are there any other places to buy Darksword swords than from the manufacturer's website?

that was incredible Paul. I must that was pretty cool. I love watching swords get put to the test. Seeing what there made of is really awesome. You did a great job and i got a couple laughs as well. I would love to hear your personal opinion on Darksword's because there is one in specific i would love to buy but not sure yet if i should take the plunge due to the price but this vid is helping to convince me If u have time, plz PM anything u can tell me about Darksword and what kinda quality they guarantee. Im looking at buying the (1339: 14th C. Two Handed Sword) absolutely beautiful.

That was pretty nice!, i'm amazed the sword didn't sustain any more damage from those hits! I'd just like to point out one thing. I heard someone say: That's enough. Thats it. ...at the end of the first video, and i didn't recognize the voice, then it hit me! That's gotta be Paul speaking, the reason why i didn't recognise it was because we haven't heard Paul say a word in any video! Until now! I'm just wondering, why haven't you said anything (at all) before in your videos? I most other videos submitted by other members on this forum they say atleast a few words (please correct me if my memory is out of place ), or is it just shootermike that dares speak during his videos? Anyway, nice to see even the cheaper (as in not albion/atrim) swords stand up agains this kind of punishment!

Yep, those were awesome sounds coming out of that steel drum! I think I'm gonna feed those sounds into my sampler. +1

That sword is awesome. I want one.
Should I take this as a fair sample of the quality of Darksword Armoury? There are several blades there I've been looking at.

Great vids, Paul. This has kind of changed my mind on Darksword. I may have to give them another try. Maybe that little Squire sword? Thanks a bunch for doing the old Albion "beat the drum" test. That definitely separates the good swords from the also-rans.

Damn straight suvurov! Well, I have finally finished the review. This sword was seriously put through the wringer because after over 6 months corresponding with Eyal from Darksword (who is a member here and may drop by in this thread later) I was looking to find a new line of swords to add to the SBG Sword Store - and obviously, with my reputation on the line, they HAD to stand up to some pretty high standards. I'm glad to say that this sword did not disappoint - though the review is easily one of the longest ever seen on SBG (mostly because it is a standard review plus the destructive test all in one). You can see it hereThe only critcisms of this particular sword is that the scabbard is ugly and doesn't fit well (but is effectively a freebie anyway), the polish of the sword is a bit scratchy here and there with some grind marks (acceptable at this price point, especially for a beater), the tip has been blunted funny and the tang looks a bit thin. On the positive side - the blade is as tough as nails, well balanced, beautuful furniture, tight assembly, EXCELLENT tempering and - yeah, did I mention it is tough as nails. I have another Darksword here with me - their new Viking sword - which is much heavier, but stunning furniture and an equally tough looking blade (haven't tested it yet) and the squire is on the way (but Jason Woodard, the guy who basically introduced me to this line - has recently sent me a review and it seems like another well balanced and goodly weighted durable beater!). I haven't yet had a chance to try out the larger swords - so I will not be offering them for sale at SBG until I can. But this sword, its cousin the norman and the squire (as well as the 12th century, which was reviewed by Jason) will be for sale there within the next few days - with some very nice pricing. This isn't a sudden thing by the way, I have been talking with Eyal for well over 6 months and these guys are totally on the level. They are proud of their swords, and it shows in the product. I just think it is cool that we can finally get a North Amercian made sword with a price tag under US$300! Anywho - for those with some time to check out all the tests and stuff, have a read and let me know what you think. Cheers, - Paul

Sword abuse. Your collection must all have nicks and scratches, Paul! Do you have one 'abused' collection, and one clean collection?
Cool vids!

The things I do in the name of sword science (such a good excuse isn't it?) Interestingly though, I cleaned this sword up a bit more today and you can hardly tell it was used in this way. I reckon I can get it back to almost 'as new' condition!

I mean, it can't be all that bad, can it? After a sharpening to get rid of the nicks and dents, a damn good polish, and a tap to the peening to correct any handle loosening... Job should be a good un, I reckon. It didnt look at all bad in the video, especially considering the blows it was dishing out.

I wouldn't mind giving a DSA sword a run for it's money. Looks very impressive.
Update: Awesome, and inspiring review Paul.
